The hike starts at the Hotel Tannen in Steinen.
(S) From the Hotel Tannen, head east along Friedrichstrasse. At the first crossroads, turn left onto Eisenbahnstrasse.
(1) Cross the Wiese river, then the railway line and walk through the village of Steinen heading north. Cross a small stream, the Steinenbach, and look for a sign saying "Lörrach Fahrrad".
(2) Turn left and follow the Steinenbach for about 1.1 km due west until you reach a sign for "Schlacktenhaus".
(3) Follow this sign and take the Löchleweg. Continue through the forest, cross the Grenzweg, then take the Stockertweg and head south to join the Heilisauweg.
(3) Turn right, then right again at the next fork. Heading north, follow the stream and pass several fish ponds. You will reach an intersection about 500 m after the last pond (Inselweiher).
(4) Keep right along the Heilisaubach stream. Head north until you reach an intersection with Wannenweg.
(5) Turn right and, after about 50 m, you will see a sign indicating "Kandern 6 km".
(6) Turn left onto the Sheideck - Nasse Küche forest road and walk to a crossroads just before a bend in the L135.
(7) Turn right across a car park and follow the sign for "Kandern". The path is wide. Shortly before reaching a farm, you will see another sign for "Kandern".
(8) Follow the Glashütteweg to the left. After a wide right-hand bend, continue west until you reach another sign indicating "Kandern 3 km".
(10) Turn right heading north and shortly afterwards you will reach a fork.
(11) Leave the forest track and take the path on the left towards the Roter Rain Hütte. (Cabin, picnic tables and benches).
(12) Reach the car park, turn left before the road, and find the start of a path called "Fasangartenweg".
(13) Follow Fasangartenweg for about one kilometre until you reach an intersection.
(14) At the crossroads, turn right, heading north. The path heads north-west until it reaches an intersection with a path that provides a shortcut to Kandern.
(15) Take the small path on the right that leads directly to Kandern. Heading north, you will reach Waldeckstrasse and then join Hauptstrasse just after the bridge over the Kander.
(16) Turn left onto Hauptstrasse, towards the village centre. Turn right onto Ziegelstrasse to reach your accommodation for the night, Gasthaus Zur Schnecke (E).
