To make the description clearer, the following symbols are used:
Sign R: Yellow sign with a hiker pictogram.
Sign No. 38 or P38: Red and white multi-directional sign with a green No. 38 sticker.
Sign No. 26 or P26: Red and white multi-directional sign with a green No. 26 sticker.
It is advisable to travel to Spiez by train (see the ‘Practical Information’ section).
The start of this walk is at the Hotel Seegarten Marina in Spiez.
Signposting P38/P26
(S) From the hotel, head to the terrace by the harbour and walk round the marina to the beach (Bad).
(1) Stay along the lakeside on the Strandweg. Look out for sign No. 38/26, which confirms you’re heading in the right direction. Walk past the cantonal fish farm buildings and the public toilets before rounding a bend towards Faulensee Bay. (Elevation 559 and sign No. 38/26).
(2) Continue along the lovely lakeside walk to the jetty for the cruise boats on Lake Thun.
(3) Continue along Faulensee Bay, going round the Strandhotel Seeblick, until you reach the road to Interlaken. Walk along the left-hand side of Interlakenstrasse for about 50 m.
Signposted P38 only
(4) Cross the Interlaken road opposite the Dorfgässli and join the Almendweg (P38).
(5) Turn left onto the Allmendweg, continue until you reach an underpass beneath the railway line, and look out for a flight of steps on the left just after the underpass.
(6) Climb the steps, walk alongside the railway line for about a hundred metres, turn right to go under the A8 motorway, and emerge onto Schüpfgasse.
(7) Turn right onto Schüpfgasse, then follow the hairpin bend to the left towards the hamlet of Allmend. Continue until you reach Krattigstrasse.
(8) Cross Krattigstrasse and take the path directly opposite. Cross two forest tracks (both signposted with P38). Walk through the Bois du Lac (Seeholz) and follow another P38 sign as you leave the woods at Chalchmattli.
(9) Head towards the village of Aeschi Bei Spiez, following the various P36 signs. You’ll arrive at the southern end of Aeschi.
(10) At the fork in the road, turn left onto Suldhaltenstrasse and head south until you reach a junction (last P38)
Signposting: Faltschen signs
(11) Leave Trail No. 38 for good and take the small road heading south until you reach a Fork in the road.
(12) Stay on Suldhaltenstrasse to the right, heading eastwards until you reach another Faltschen sign.
(13) Turn right and begin the descent towards the Suld stream; cross it and head back up to the hamlet of Faltschen.
Signposting: Kiental signs
(14) Turn left and follow the various multi-directional signposts for Kiental to reach the hamlet of Hubel.
(15) Still heading south, continue the climb until you reach a junction after a sharp right-hand bend.
(16) Head towards Kiental on the left and follow the various signs for Kiental to reach Hanselen (elevation 986).
(17) Walk along the small road until you reach a hairpin bend and come across another sign for Kiental.
(18) Continue to the right along the “Allmistrasse” path until you reach a small road at Chnächstguet.
(19) Head down to the right towards Kiental along Rufenenstrasse until you reach a bend; at the exit of a sharp right-hand bend, look out for an ‘R’ sign indicating a path that cuts across the bends.
(20) Turn left; the path rejoins Rufenenstrasse – follow it down directly to Kiental.
(21) Turn left onto the Trogstutzweg to enter the village of Kiental. Continue to the Hotel Bären, your accommodation for the night (E).
