Spiez - Interlaken via the Panorama Rundweg Thunersee

For this fourth stage, you will once again enjoy the lakeside on the Strandweg. The walk along the lake from Spiez to Faulensee is magnificent. The route then climbs from Kratttigen to Meielisalp. You will enjoy numerous views of the lake and have another opportunity to cross the 140-metre-long Leissigen bridge, suspended 60 metres above the Spissibach Gorge.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Panorama Rundweg Thunersee

Description of the walk

To make the description clearer, the following symbols are used:
Sign R: Yellow sign with a hiker pictogram.
Sign No. 26 or P26: Red and white multi-directional sign with a green No. 26 sticker.
The start of this walk is at the Hotel Seegarten Marina in Spiez.

(S) From the hotel, head to the terrace by the harbour and walk round the marina to the lido (Bad).

(1) Stay along the lakeshore on the Strandweg. Look out for sign No. 26, which confirms you are heading in the right direction. Walk past the cantonal fish farm buildings and the public toilets before reaching a bend towards Faulensee Bay. (Elevation 559 and sign No. 26).

(2) Continue the lovely lakeside walk to the jetty for the cruise boats on Lake Thun.

(3) Continue along Faulensee Bay, going round the Strandhotel Seeblick, then join the road to Interlaken and arrive at the car park by the Faulensee playground (Spielplatz).

(4) Continue along the lakeshore, passing a small beach at Faulensee and then the small cantonal harbour at Güetital. About a hundred metres past this harbour, look out for an ‘R’ sign, just at the junction with a small road on the right.

(5) At the R sign, cross with care, turn right and use the underpass beneath the railway line and then beneath the motorway. Following the R signs, head up towards Angernstraße (P26).

(6) Keep heading south-east and, following the R and P26 signs, join the Mületalweg as soon as you reach the first houses in Krattigen.

(7) Following the various signs, take the Mületalweg, then the Schüpfgasse, the Schulhausgasse and finally the Dorfstraße. You’ll come across a P26 sign near a sports ground.

(8) Turn left onto Chlostergasse, then follow Gerichummgasse out of the village. As soon as the road narrows, look out for an R sign.

(9) Turn right towards the south, then west, until you reach a Fork in the road marked with sign No. 26.

(10) As indicated by signpost P26, turn left and continue southwards, following the signposts as you go. You’ll reach a small road after passing under a high-voltage power line. (Elevation 907 – P26).

(11) Follow the direction indicated by sign P26 to reach the small Hellbode mountain hut.

(12) Continue the climb to the next junction. This is also the highest point of today’s stage.

(13) Begin the descent and follow the three consecutive No. 26 signposts to return to Schupfweid (or Schipfweid) at a hairpin bend.

(14) Turn right, cross a stream, then head east, following the numerous P26 signs to the Panoramabrücke suspension bridge at Lessingen.

(15) Walk across the suspension bridge, admiring the Spissibach Gorges before reaching the right bank of the stream.

(16) Continue the walk through the forest, crossing two more streams before reaching the Hotel Meielisalp. Enjoy the view over Lake Thun too.

(17) Turn right towards Stoffelberg. Shortly after Martiszun, follow the sign for the P26 to join a small road.

(18) Turn left onto this road and stay on it until you reach a roundabout just before passing under the Interlakenstraße.

(19) Walk parallel to the Interlakenstraße for about 1.5 km, then head down alongside a car park for a few metres before coming to an ‘R’ sign.

(20) Climb a little further to maintain some distance from Interlakenstraße. Continue at a leisurely pace until you reach the descent towards a roundabout.

(21) Carefully enter the roundabout on the right, leaving Därligenstraße behind. Turn off towards Unterseenstraße and quickly look out for a small road leading down to the right.

(22) Follow the sign for Interlaken West, pass under both carriageways of the motorway and you’ll immediately come across sign No. 26.

(23) Turn left and return to the bank of the SchifffahrtsKanal. (P26)

(24) Follow the canal as far as the recycling plant and return to Lütscherenstraße.

(25) Turn left, heading towards the railway line along Lütscherenstraße and then Fabrikstraße.

(26) Follow the quay to Interlaken West station. (E)
