Description of the walk

The start of this hike is at the church in Poncey-sur-l'Ignon.

(S/E) Head north and take the small road that climbs between the wash house and the church (Rue Haute). When you reach the right-hand bend (elevation 466), go straight ahead on the path that cuts across the bend. Return to the small road and follow it to the left.

(1) Follow the D6 to the left (west). Cross the D971 and take the white path opposite.

(2) Join theGR®2coming from Chanceaux and continue west, following the red and white markings. Descend the valley and join the D103c.

(3) Take this road on the left and go around the Étang de la Grillande lake on the right.

(4) Still near the lake and before the safety barriers, turn left onto the path leading to a pumping station. Follow this wide path for about 1.5km, ignoring a few turnings on the left and heading up the valley.

(5) When this path turns slightly to the right as it climbs, take the path on the left followed by theGR®2(note: the markers are not very visible). After 200m, join a wide path, pass in front of a house and, before reaching the D103, take the path slightly to the left. You will reach the source of the Seine.

(6) Continue on theGR®2behind the source. Cross the D103 and continue opposite on a path following the sign for "Promenade sources-Seine".

(7) At the crossroads (triangular marker), turn left. Stay on theGR®2, ignoring all the paths branching off to the sides.

(8) After about 1 km, turn right onto a forest path. At the junction with a white path, take the path on the left. At the end, cross the D971 and follow the D26 towards Poncey-sur-l'Ignon.

(9) At the Sources de l'Ignon car park, take the path leading down to the springs.

(10) Continue on theGR®2, taking care to avoid the numerous springs that gush out over a distance of about 300 metres, making progress a little tricky (you'll only get your feet wet). You will then arrive at a place called Le Comet.

(11) Continue straight ahead (north, yellow markings) and leave theGR®2trail as it veers sharply to the right. Pass under a power line, cross the Ignon and rejoin the tarmac road.

(12) When you reach the village, take the D26 on the right. At the intersection with Rue Haute, take the latter on the left and head towards the church (S/E).

August 2024: The source of the Ignon and the car park near this source are no longer accessible since a 2019 municipal decree prohibited access. From the road, you can see that the path leading from the car park is covered by numerous fallen trees, that it is no longer maintained and is almost invisible. This hike can therefore no longer be completed as described in the guide: using the map, you will need to improvise a route to bypass the ban on access to the source of the Ignon before reaching the end of the trail.

A pretty starting village followed by a first section through the countryside that is of moderate interest. Pleasant around the sources of the Seine. Unfortunately, the path leading to the sources of the Ignon is no longer passable following a municipal decree prohibiting access after the ash tree disease. Return via the uninteresting road.

Route interest : ★☆☆☆☆ Very disappointing

Disappointed, a hike without much interest. However, the starting village is the most interesting part. A village with stone houses, two beautiful wash houses and a superb, fully renovated church with a slate roof reminiscent of monuments in Rome. After that, it's over. The start of the hike is practically 2.5 km of road, then uninteresting paths to the source of the Seine, which is accessible by road with parking. More of a picnic spot. Then head towards the source of the Ignon, again along paths of little interest. Unfortunately, the source is inaccessible due to a municipal order prohibiting access to the source and the GR2 with banners from the French Hiking Federation. No explanation, no time frame, nothing. So return to the village of arrival via another 2.5 km of road. Avoid, do everything by road.

A very beautiful hike in spring. The two main springs are well worth the detour. Not to be missed!

Okay, I know it well, so you didn't go to the source of the Seine, where there's also a very nice spot set up for picnics.
Perhaps this will be an opportunity to return there.
Best regards

Hello
Actually, that's not quite your route! I realised that afterwards...
We set off from Champigny, heading for the sources of the Ignon, then Poncey sur l'Ignon and back, a total of 12.2 km.
Our route is on visugpx
Best regards

Hello
A very beautiful route with good paths and beautiful scenery, a shaded route with numerous springs.
Picnic table near the springs.
For picnics: in Poncey sur l'Ignon (a very pretty village with wash houses, a church undergoing renovation with a magnificent lava roof, etc.).
An old wash house has been converted with tables and chairs, which is where we had lunch as we set off from Champigny. Our group that day consisted of 35 hikers from the Rando Longecourt association.
Thank you for designing this route.

A beautiful hike mainly through woodland, except for 3 km (following the D6 north of the route).
The interesting village of Poncey sur l'Ignon, with its two wash houses and church with a lava roof currently undergoing renovation. Worth seeing once the work is completed in two or three years.
Very pleasant spring sites with picnic tables available.

Very pleasant walk, great variety of landscapes, mostly shaded; the only slight drawback is the start, which is mostly on the road.

A very pleasant route with varied landscapes, from woodland to valleys (there is a rather uninteresting stretch of open farmland, but you just need to persevere) ending with the multiple resurgences that form the cool "source" of the Ignon river, in a NATURA 2000 area that is protected.

Already given your opinion?

Only comment: Walk a little far from Dijon
But it's a nice hike. Not too long, fairly easy...

Point No. 5: When this path turns slightly to the right as it climbs, take the path on the left followed by the GR 2....
Please note that the red and white GR2 marker for the path is not immediately visible (about 100 m) from the intersection.
Enjoy your walk.

Interesting hike:

Not too long, not difficult...

We pass through some interesting little villages and can linger at the sources of the Seine and the Ignon.

Worth noting at the sources of the Ignon are the expanses of wild garlic... useful for making PESTO, for example.

Recommended for a friendly outing... However, please note: the route is a little far from Dijon (quite a long drive for Dijon residents).

Thanks to the designer of this hike
