Circular wind turbine loop starting from Trouhaut

This route, starting from Trouhaut, climbs up Mont Tasselot and continues to La Rochotte, passing at the foot of several wind turbines. It then returns towards Fromenteau, passing close to another group of wind turbines, before descending back to Trouhaut.

N.B. It is also possible to do the wind turbine route without going via Trouhaut, for example by starting from Fromenteau.

Description of the walk

Park at Trouhaut town hall.

(S/E) From Trouhaut town hall, head up Rue de la Fontaine.

(1) At the top, turn left onto Rue de Vaumercy. Ignore two turnings on the left and continue along the dirt track that runs alongside the street. Walk up to a fork in the path (stone bench).

(2) Then take the path on the left and continue towards Vau-Mercy.

(3) About 500 m further on, at a new fork (not shown on the map), turn right onto the path that continues through the woodland. The path passes near the Frênois spring and then the Goule spring (water intake a little further on to the right).
N.B. These springs may run dry in summer. Continue along the path until you reach the plateau.

(4) Take the path to the left. At the next junction, turn left to continue along the edge of the plateau. The path passes successively at the foot of wind turbines T6, T5 and T4 (T for Trouhaut). After T4, there is a small dip with another fork (elevation 547); stay on the left-hand path and reach the foot of wind turbine T3.

(5) Continue westwards. About 200m further on, ignore a turn-off to the left, continue westwards and move away from the edge of the plateau. Once you reach La Rochotte, head to the centre of the hamlet. Note the R1 to R4 wind turbines opposite (north-west) (R stands for La Rochotte).

(6) At La Chapelle Saint-Hubert, follow the tarmac road to the right. The road passes a picnic area and then crosses the access road to wind turbine T2 on the right. Continue along the road for a further 400 m or so and note wind turbines B1 to B8 in the distance on the left (B for Bligny-le-Sec).

(7) Then turn right (south-east) onto a path through the fields. At the crossroads (elevation 558), continue straight ahead and note wind turbines T4 to T6 (already seen from the other side earlier).

(8) At the end, turn left towards the circular educational trail (if you wish to shorten the walk, you can also turn right directly towards point 12, which saves 2.5 km).

(9) After about 500 m, turn right. The circular educational trail features several information boards explaining how wind energy works and the specific features of the wind farm we are passing through.

(10) At the foot of wind turbine S4 (S for Saint-Seine-l'Abbaye), at the fork, veer right (south-southeast). Go straight on and pass in front of wind turbines S5 and S6.

(11) At the end of the track, turn right.

(12) At the next junction, turn left. Continue straight on (south-east). The path joins a tarmac road: follow it straight on to the centre of Fromenteau.

(13) Follow the D16 to the right for about 100 metres (old wash house, picnic table, water point). Take thefirst right, the D10g towards Trouhaut, and at the junction immediately ahead (Chapelle Saint-Éloi on the left), continue straight ahead.

(14) About 400 m further on, after a small pond, take the fork to the right. 100 m later, leave the path on the right and keep to the left (west). The path climbs to the summit of Mont Tasselot (ignore a path on the right). At a stone bench, take in the beautiful view of the wind farm in the Saint-Seine area and, in the distance, the wind farms dotting the neighbouring ridges. Continue westwards.

(15) At the T-junction, turn left. Immediately ignore a path on the right and head down to Trouhaut via the Videmont or Voie du Mont.

(1) At the crossroads you passed on the way out, turn left and head back towards the village centre (S/E).

Notes

There are several water points along this hike:
- In Trouhaut, a tap at the cemetery (S/E).
- Two springs on the way up to Vau-Mercy, but be warned: these springs often run dry in summer.
- A water point at the Fromenteau wash house.

In bad weather, the Fromenteau wash house offers excellent shelter.

Worth a visit

In Trouhaut: Saint-Philibert Church (S/E) and wash house (1).

On Mont Tasselot, views of the wind farm and, in the distance in almost every direction, other wind farms.

And of course, standing at the foot of a working wind turbine is always very impressive.

Hello,
A lovely, very easy route with little elevation gain.
The weather was poor at the start of November, so there were no other walkers on the route.
It’s a bit tricky to find a parking space in the village.
Thank you for mapping out this route.

We did this route again, skipping the circular educational loop: 13 km, 3 hours 30 minutes.
The route wasn’t very busy, but it was Easter Sunday.
An ideal route for a sunny, windless Easter Sunday with blue skies.
The spring flowers are beautiful in the woodland.
An easy route.
Thanks again for this walk.

A lovely route suitable for everyone, except perhaps those sensitive to strong smells, as there are plenty of manure heaps along the way – but that’s the countryside for you!!! Best avoided in hot weather as there is very little shade.

Parking is practically impossible in the village; it’s very narrow. We parked at the exit on the wide hard shoulder on the left-hand side.
At point 11, the path had disappeared: probably ‘swallowed up’ by the crops. We carried on straight ahead towards the road and then Fromenteau.
Otherwise, an easy route to follow; picnic area (between points 6 and 7) with several tables, very good.
A pleasant and original route with the wind turbines.

A lovely walk to explore the wind turbines (discovery route).
We went on the walk on a sunny winter’s day – perfect.
Beautiful views of the plateau.
The villages are well worth a visit, with lovely chapels, houses and wash houses.
Thank you for this walk.
