Summit of Capucin from Mont Dore

The summit of Capucin, starting from Mont Dore, is one of the first summits accessible from the town, offering a superb panorama and a breath of fresh air. You can also see the Capucin Funicular, the oldest electric funicular in France.

Description of the walk

Parking is available in the car park opposite the tourist office.

(S/E) Opposite the tourist office, turn right and at the end of the street you will quickly find a yellow hiking signpost indicating the route to Capucin and the funicular. Continue along the path under the trees, which will take you to the Capucin funicular.

(1) After the funicular railway, continue along the path to the Salon du Capucin.

(2) Turn left towards Pic du Capucin.

(3) After one kilometre, Pic du Capucin will be visible on your left. Follow the path on the left, which forms a semicircle, to reach the summit.

(4) Enjoy the superb view. Return to Mont Dore (S/E) by retracing your steps.
