Hulftegg - Chrüzegg via the Züri Oberland-Höhenweg

This third stage will take you from the Hulftegg Pass to the isolated inn at Chrüzegg. The start of the route alternates between forest and pastures before taking a ridge trail at Roten. You will follow this ridge between the cantons of St. Gallen and Zurich to the Schnebelhorn, the highest point in the canton of Zurich and also the highest point of the hike. This summit offers a splendid panorama stretching from Lake Constance to Lake Zurich. The scenic route then passes through the Schindelberg, Rossegg, Habrütispitz and Chrüzegg peaks, offering more superb views.

Description of the walk

For ease of description, the following annotations are used:
R sign: Yellow sign with hiker pictogram.
Sign No. 69 or P69: Red/white multi-directional sign with green sticker No. 69.
The start of this hike is at Gasthaus Hulftegg.

(S) From Gasthaus Hulftegg, cross the Hulft Pass road with caution, staying on the left-hand pavement, heading south. Continue to the bus stop.

(1) Leave the road and turn left onto the alpine path, enter the forest and pass Aelpli before reaching a crossroads (P69).

(2) As suggested by the P69, turn right and follow the signs, climbing gradually towards a ridge that peaks at 1,099 metres.

(3) Keep left and continue at a constant altitude until you reach a P69.

(4) Once back on the ridge, head south until you reach a fork (hiking sign).

(5) Turn left, find a P69 at an altitude of 1049 metres, and you will come to another fork shortly after Törli (P69).

(6) Continue south, following the various P69 signs to climb to the summit of the very popular Schnebelhorn. Enjoy the view and take a break to take photos.

(7) Descend following the south-east ridge of the Schnebelhorn, following the P69 signs at each junction, to reach Schindelberghöchi. Find a P69 sign just behind the alpine chalet.

(8) As indicated on the sign, turn left (east-southeast) and descend gradually to the Gasthaus Schindelberg. (P69)

(9) From Gasthaus Schindelberg, there are two options:
- go around Rossegg,
- or go over this small peak. Take the left-hand climb towards Rossegg, which offers a view of Lake Zurich.

(10) At P69, continue right, climbing up to Rossegg, then gradually descend to an intersection and find another P69.

(11) Continue south, following the path that goes around the Habrütispitz. Continue to the next P69.

(12) Begin a final steep climb towards Chrüsegg (P69).

(13) Head east towards the cheese dairy, then the Chrüsegg inn, where you will spend the night. (E).
