The route starts from the car park/viewpoint at the end of Rue du Château.
The route is very well marked in yellow and shares some sections with theGR®46, marked in red and white.
This circuit is proposed in the opposite direction to the country signs (which you may encounter).
(S/E) Opposite the buildings, turn left onto Chemin des Sœurs. Follow the village, which remains on your right.
GR®46red and white markings
(1) Take the first dirt track on the left. Follow it down to the D964. Cross the road, follow the road on the left and immediately take the track on the right. Further on, ignore a road on the left. At the T-junction, turn left.
(2) After Guilharmou, turn right. Immediately take the small white track on the left. This turns at a right angle to the left and climbs straight up, ignoring a path that branches off to the left. At the road, cross and continue straight ahead. At the D5, turn right.
(3) In front of the rubbish bins at the industrial livestock sheds, bear slightly right to take the dirt and gravel track that runs alongside the sheds. Follow the red and white markings and ignore all the farm tracks.
(4) At the fork, take the right. Further on, the Lagarde farm is bypassed by a wide loop to the right. The IGN map is incorrect at this point.
Yellow markings
(5) Leave theGR®46on the right, following thePR® yellow markings. At the road, turn left towards the lake. Cross the Ruisseau de la Vernière stream. In front of the waste disposal site, head straight towards the basin via the grassy track and take a parallel track to avoid the tarmac. At the end of the basin, rejoin the road. Turn left to reach Saint-André and its stream along the D964.
(6) Cross the departmental road and follow the wide grassy track. At the T-junction with the first road, turn left and a few metres later, turn right onto the second grassy track.
(7) At the second T-junction, turn left again, then right. Follow this wide grassy track, ignoring the paths that cross it on the right and left. The track curves 90° to the right before climbing up in front of Lapeyre, reaching the large industrial livestock building at Pouget Bas and arriving at the group of traditional buildings at Pouget Haut.
GR®46Red andWhite Markings and Yellow Markings
(8) In front of the entrance to Pouget Haut and facing the Occitan stone cross, stay on the road and turn right. Castelnau, which has been visible for some time, is now almost within reach. At the T-junction, cross the road and climb up the grassy track.
(9) At the junction with Rue du Foirail, turn right and then take the few steps on the left to reach Rue de la Poste and follow it. At the three-way junction in front of the Baladin tea room, turn left towards the church to visit it.
(10) Square in front of the town hall. After your visit, go straight ahead towards Rue Gambetta, passing in front of the restaurant Les Arcades. At the end of the street, follow the road to the castle. This road ends at a few steps in front of the car park (S/E).
