Park on the grassy area in front of the Saint-Jérôme mission cross.
To reach this cross, located in the middle of nowhere, take the D964 between Gaillac and Castelnau-de-Montmiral. Coming from Gaillac, at the large Bompart garage, turn onto the D4a, then continue almost opposite at the next crossroads onto the D5. The Saint-Jérôme cross will soon come into view.
I suggest you follow this circular in the opposite direction to that suggested in the guidebooks, as that is how I did it.
The route is very well marked in yellow.
(S/E) From the car park, head towards the farm buildings. Walk alongside the buildings, taking the dirt track opposite you. The flat, grassy path winds its way through the fields. Cross a road and continue along the path opposite. From this point to the Gradille chapel (the IGN map is inaccurate in several places). Pass Marevaysse to get closer to the Milhac organic farm.
(1) In front of Milhac, turn left. The road descends gently to a T-junction. Cross and continue down the dirt track opposite. Cross the Tescou ford via a large flat stone. The path enters the woods and climbs steeply. The IGN map does not correspond to the actual terrain. The climb becomes gentler as you approach the fork towards the Gradille chapel.
(2) Turn right for a round trip to the chapel.
(3) Gradille Chapel. Retrace your steps after the visit.
(2) Turn right and continue climbing towards the Puech de la Bôle farm.
(4) Just before the Puech farm, look carefully for a path further to the left. The path that continues on the map passes by the farm. It is best to avoid it. The dirt road becomes paved; pass Pommier Long as you go. At the crossroads, turn right and reach elevation 271.
(5) Take the hairpin bend to the left onto the Cabanette path. After 50 metres, continue straight ahead on the track, heading north-north-east. After crossing vineyards and fields (on a slight incline), you will reach the Vors road.
(6) Walk a few steps towards Vors, then immediately turn left towards Patuffet. Head back up into the woods. Halfway through the woods, the path descends towards Le Tescou. At elevation 229, the houses of Journès come into view, marking the direction to follow.
Cross the Tescou ford. At the road, turn left towards Journès. Pass the two houses on the right.
(7) Take the dirt track on the right. The track climbs steadily. As you approach Labot, it ends in a short, steep climb. The track leads to the road. Walk 300 metres along the road.
(8) Make a sharp turn in front of the private property. Stay alert, as the path is not very visible. It is often confused with the entrance to the property.
The path winds between meadows, hedges and small oak woods before reaching the Causse de Derrau road.
(9) At the road, turn left. Walk past the farm. The farm buildings from the start of the walk are now in sight. At the crossroads, turn right to find the Croix Saint-Jérôme (A/D).
