Park in the car park of Saint-Grégoire church.
(S/E) Opposite the church, follow the narrow lane that runs alongside it. At the end of the lane, turn left. The street curves to the right. At the T-junction, turn left again. Further on, at the fork, take the right-hand path. Look for a wide dirt track, about 900 m away.
(1) Leave the road and take this wide track on the right. Lined with trees, it leads to a tarmac road in the hamlet of Le Bès. Turn left and drive past the farm. Immediately after, the road gives way to a track that winds through meadows and ends at the Bourrel calvary at the entrance to Caussanel.
(2) Pass the Calvary and turn right. Continue along this gravel track which serves two houses on the left. The track becomes grassy after these houses. It continues further on as a narrow path, very overgrown with tall grass. Don't be discouraged.
At the road, turn right. At the junction with the D114, cross and continue straight ahead. Pass Le Peyral and its wooden calvary to reach the Puech Merlhou equestrian centre.
(3) In front of the entrance to the equestrian centre, go around it on the left. After going around it, keep heading south, keeping to the right at all crossroads (not shown here on the IGN map), until you reach the following point. The path follows the Lézert, descends into the valley and then, after a sharp bend to the right, climbs back up towards Puech Miral. You will reach a crossroads at the end of the climb.
(4) Ignore the path on the right that leads back to the equestrian centre. Continue slowly straight ahead.
(5) At the crossroads, turn left. The path descends gently to the D100. At the road, turn left. After 50 m, cross the road and take the path opposite, slightly off to the side. Go down the wide dirt track until you reach the Lézert at the Biel bridge. The IGN map is incorrect at this point. Cross the bridge and follow the Lézert on your right. You will arrive at the confluence of the Andouquette and the Lézert.
(6) A ford made of flat stones makes it easy to cross the Andouquette. The path (which is not shown on the IGN map but exists on the ground) moves away from the Lézert and rejoins it a little further down. Look for an inverted fork.
(7) Turn left. Follow a path overlooking the Lézert. Reach another inverted Y-junction.
(8) Turn sharply right to reach the bridge and the ruins of the Moulin de Labastide Vassals. Cross the bridge to admire the site. After the ruins of the mill, the path is not marked on the IGN map but does exist on the ground. Head back up towards the inverted Y-junction.
(9) At the Y-junction, take a hairpin turn to the right to climb up to the ruins of the keep of Labastide Castle. This uphill path is made of large stones, like a Roman road.
(10) Observe these ruins without approaching them and continue climbing. Higher up, the path gives way to a wide, almost flat dirt track. Keep to the right at each junction. You will come to a pretty lake.
(12) Walk along the left side of the pond. The trail continues on a wide grassy track, ending at the road. Turn right onto the road. Continue straight towards the village. At the crossroads with the calvary, turn left to return to the church car park (A/D).
