The peaceful Tarn from Longouyrou to Pécotte

A hike along a bend in the Tarn, taking the tourist route which is very quiet but not suitable for hikers who dislike tarmac. Passes by a viewpoint, the hamlet of Pécotte where an old ferry is on display, a chapel and an old fortified house.

Description of the walk

In Crespinet, park in the small car park at the town hall.

No signposts (a few directional signs mentioned in the description)

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take the D70 on the left, pass the town hall and then turn left onto the Route du Lotissement de Roc Blanc. When the tarmac disappears, continue in the same direction on the Chemin de Longouyrou. You will find tarmac again when you reach the hamlet of Longouyrou. Follow the hamlet road to the D700, Route de la Rivière.

(1) Follow the road to the left, with the Tarn on your right, and pass the hamlet of Larroque. At the hamlet of Truel, continue on the D700.

(2) Ignore the small road Chemin de Muret on your left. Continue on the D700 for about a hundred metres.

(3) At the Hameau de la Mélonié sign, turn onto the small road on the left and take the first path on the right, which winds upwards to reach a ridge at a T-junction with another path.

(4) Turn left towards the Sentier de la Méridienne sign.

(5) A few metres further on, ignore the path on the right and continue straight ahead, in the direction indicated by the sign for Variante par le Périé, for a round trip offering some nice views. The path climbs gently. When you reach the ridge, ignore the path on the left and continue to the right until you reach an antenna.

(6) Retrace your steps to the Variante par le Périé sign.

(5) Take the path down to the left to reach the hamlet of Pécotte, on the banks of the Tarn. Pécotte ferry (information signs).

(7) Follow the D700 to the right, which runs alongside the Tarn.

(3) At the crossroads you passed on the way there, at the sign for the hamlet of La Mélonié, continue straight ahead for about a hundred metres.

(2) Turn right onto the small road Chemin de Muret and continue along the path when the tarmac disappears. Further on, ignore a path on the right, pass between the houses of the hamlet of La Mélonié, ignore the road on the right and continue along the grassy path. You will arrive at the sign for the hamlet of Les Farguettes.

(8) Follow the path to the left, then continue along the street. Pass to the right of the chapel and its cemetery, continue along the road, then pass to the left of the old fortified house.

(9) At the fork in the road, go up to the right to the hamlet of La Rougearié.

(10) In the hamlet, follow the street to the left and, at the crossroads, turn left to reach Crespinet. You will come to the D70; follow it to the left to return to the town hall (S/E).

Two viewpoints on the round trip, but not over the Tarn, information panels about the old Pécotte ferry, pretty chapel (unfortunately not necessarily enhanced by its surroundings), renovated terraces in Larroque.
