Description of the walk

Follow footpath no. 20. Information panels about the local heritage are located along the route.

(S/E) From Place de Marcq, head towards the town hall and pass to the right of it.

(1) Then turn right into Rue du Mont and continue to the end of the cul-de-sac. Climb up a grassy path to reach the water tower.

(2) At the water tower, turn right onto the white path. Cross the Marcq communal wood, staying on this path.

(3) At the intersection of the forest roads at the end, turn left onto a section shared with the GR®14.

(4) At the junction with the small road, turn left and follow it to the picnic area at the edge of the woods.

(5) Head down into the woods on the left after the picnic area. At the crossroads of the forest paths behind the church, take the path on the right to reach Cornay via Rue de l'Église. Once on this street, turn right and then immediately left at the hairpin bend onto Rue du Prieuré. There is an information panel on the history of Cornay Castle on this street.

(6) Turn right onto Rue Basse and continue until you reach Rue Quillaux, where you should turn right. Pass in front of the town hall and continue uphill towards the Croix du Bayle viewpoint. Don't hesitate to climb up there to admire the view. Return to the picnic area.

(5) Continue straight ahead in the opposite direction to the outward journey on the small road. You will come back to the large crossroads of forest roads and the GR®14.

(4) Take the GR®14 on the right in the opposite direction to the outward journey to reach the intersection you passed on the way out.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the GR®14 along a grassy path. Stay on this path until you reach the Besogne ponds.

(7) After the ponds, leave the GR®14 and take the bridge on the right. Follow Chemin de la Besogne up to Marcq.

(8) Turn left onto Rue d'Orthez and walk to Château Dérué, in front of which there is an information board. Then turn right onto Rue de Coquillard. Stay on this street until you reach the château, built in 1760. There is an information board in front of it. Then take the street opposite the château to return to the square (S/E).
