Description of the walk

Follow footpath no. 22.

(S/E) From Place de la Mairie, turn left onto the D946 and quickly turn right onto Rue du Fontenas. Pass a first street on your right, then turn left at the second intersection. Cross over a stream and reach Rue de la Grotte.

(1) Turn right onto the small road, pass under an old railway bridge and climb up the white path. Continue straight ahead until you reach a crossroads at the entrance to the Domaniale d'Ariethal.

(2) At this junction, go straight ahead and continue along this path, which alternates between undergrowth and clearings. You will come to a crossroads.

(3) Turn right to enter the national forest heading due east. Descend to the junction with the forest road, cross it and continue straight ahead.

(4) Leave the forest road and take a grassy path on the right towards the Ariétal viaduct. Pass by the Ariéthal farm, then under the viaduct. An information panel tells the history of the viaduct.

(5) Continue straight ahead until you reach an intersection.

(6) Turn right towards the woods. Pass under an old railway bridge, then walk along the old railway line, which has now been converted into a pleasant forest path. When you reach the edge of the national forest, turn left to find a white forest road in a bend.

(7) Continue left on this forest road, pass the Big Red One memorial plantation and reach the exit of the national forest and a fork in the road that you passed on the way there.

(2) Turn left and, following the same route as on the way there, return to Place de la Mairie (S/E).
