Schwarzsee - Jaun

(S) From the Hotel Bad, take the path that leads to the shore. Continue along the western shore of the lake, passing the Schwarzsee Turm, a small raised observatory. Return to the road just before the Hostellerie am Schwarzsee and turn right. Pass the pontoon and continue to the Gypsera car park after the bridge.

(1) At Gypsera, stay by the lake and follow its eastern shore. When the path leaves the shore, continue to a crossroads at Staldenloch, at a small bridge. Do not cross the bridge, but take the path that climbs up to the left towards Spicherweid. You will come to a crossroads.

(2) Ignore the path on the left, cross a small bridge and return to the Alphütte Hubel Rippa.
Enjoy the superb view of the Black Lake. Head west until you reach a crossroads. Turn left, heading south-east, and climb up to a new crossroads just before the Wälschi Rippa inn.

(3) Leave the path on the left that leads to Wälschi Rippa. Continue climbing to the Alphütte Steinige Rippa in Unteri Rippa.

(4) Stay on trail no. 3 and follow the signs for Brecca Pt 1378, Euschelspass and Jaun. Walk to the Sankt Antoni Brecca mountain hut.

(5) Continue along the path, after a left-hand bend head north-east, continue climbing to Rippetli, then begin a gentle descent towards Ober Stierenberg.

(6) Head south-east on trail no. 3, cross the Euschelsbach stream and return to the Untere Euschels mountain pasture.

(7) Continue south, first following the stream and then reaching the next alpine hut at Obere Euschels.

(8) Climb the last few metres to reach the Euschelspass. Begin the descent heading south and join a road at the Ritzlialp inn.

(9) Stay on trail no. 3, take Euschelsstrasse until you reach a car park and a new intersection.

(10) On the right, take the^second path, pass the Obere Dorfallmend alpine hut, then cross a small road. Leave this road and take the winding path that gradually approaches the Allmendbach torrent. Reach the torrent.

(11) Cross it and follow the signs to the village of Jaun. You will arrive at Dorfstrasse.
Cross the village and arrive on the road to the Jaun Pass, turn left to reach the Hôtel de la Cascade, today's stop (E).

The route for this hike follows the Alpenpanorama Weg trail, which is marked on Swiss maps. At each major junction, you will find signposts with a green sticker with the number 3 to indicate this trail.

From Fribourg, follow the Hauptstrasse to Schwarzsee.
To start this hike, it is best to arrive the day before and stay overnight in Schwarzsee.
