Description of the walk

Cross Saint Nicklaus and, before the Jungu cable car station, take the Tour du Cervin trail. This trail, which is always marked White Red White (BRB), is now shared with the Alpenpässe-Weg, also known as the Chamonix-Zermatt Walker's route.
Climb quickly through the forest along the cable car line, crossing it four times before reaching the high-altitude hamlet of Jungu

(1) Return to the forest for a short while before beginning the ascent of the Augstbordpass. This long climb, first west then north-east, reaches a change of ridge at an altitude of 2,454 metres.

(2) Then head north-west and then west, overlooking a small lake (often dry).

(3) Cross a path on the right coming from the clearly visible farms of Augstbordstafel. Continue west and follow an easy path to reach the Augstbord Pass.

(4) Then begin a steep descent over safe scree, then alpine pastures and finally forest before reaching the valley at Gruben and the Grand Hotel Scharzhorn (E).

Waypoints

Notes

Water supply in Jungu and, as on previous days, in the streams.
The service cable car can avoid the climb to Jungu, but this is particularly pleasant and gets you in shape for the rest of the day.
I rated this stage as Very Difficult because of its length but especially because of the elevation gain.

Worth a visit

Jungu is a charming little alpine hamlet, very well maintained and inhabited thanks to the service cable car.

(2) At this change of direction, it is advisable to stop for a few minutes to enjoy a bird's eye view of the valley stretching from Saint Niklaus to Zermatt and serving the villages of Randa and Tasch.
