Tour du Cervin Day 7 : Saint Nicklaus - Gruben

Go through Saint Niklaus, and before reaching Jungu cable car station, take (S) the Tour de Cervin trail. The trail, still waymarked White Red White (Blanc Rouge Blanc BRB) is now joined with Alpenpässe-Weg also called Chamonix-Zermatt Walker's route.

Quickly head up through the forest along the gondola lift lines crossing over four times before reaching Jungu hamlet (1).

You'll come across the forest again for a short while before heading uphill towards the pass called Augstbordpass. This long uphill hike heads west, then north-east reaching a change of ridges at high point 2454 (2).

Head north-west then west, overlooking a small lake (often dried up) (3) before coming across a path on the right coming from the farms that you can see from Augstbordstafel. Keep heading west reaching the pass called Augstbordpass (4) along an effortless trail.

Then head down a steep but secure rocky trail, then across an alpine pasture and finally through a forest reaching Gruben valley and the grand Scharzhorn hotel (6).

Water supplies in Jungu and in the streams as with previous days.
You could avoid the hike up towards Jungu by catching a ride on the gondola lift, but would be a shame as it's a pleasant hike and gets you ready for the rest of the day.
I've rated this stage as Very Difficult due to the length and especially the altitude difference.

Jungu is a delightful little alpine hamlet well maintained and equipped thanks to the gondola lift.

(2) At this point, you should take the time to rest and admire the view over the valley stretching from Saint Niklaus to Zermatt and reaching Randa and Tasch villages.
