Around Bollschweil

A lovely circular route around the small village of Bollschweil, alternating between wide forest tracks and narrow paths. At times you’ll be walking through sheltered woodland, at others enjoying sweeping views along meadow paths.

Description of the walk

Start: At the Schopbachhütte in Ehrenstetten. Coming from Ehrenkirchen, follow Wentzinger Straße, leave the village and then turn right onto Schopbachgasse. Continue along this road until you reach the hut and the forest playground.

(S/E) From the car park at the Schopbachhütte, the route initially leads past the playground and the hut along a wide forest path, slightly uphill.

(1) After about 1 km, we turn left and cross the Griesbach.

(2) Then we turn left onto an inconspicuous path, which we follow to the next crossroads. We turn right and walk along the edge of the forest on the path, which is now wide again.
"From here, we can already catch our first glimpse of Bollschweil. However, Bollschweil Castle is hidden behind the trees."
We follow the wide forest path for about 300–400 m.

(3) Then another unassuming path leads off to the right into the woods. We follow this until we come to a tarmac road (Gitteweg).

(4) We cross this and, on the other side, follow the meadow path past the house (there is a warning here about children and dogs running free). The signpost for “Rund um Bollschweil” is somewhat hidden here and not immediately visible.
We cross the Leimbächle stream and reach a wider path, which we follow to the left.

(5) This leads us onto the tarmac Leimbachweg, which we follow downhill to the left, then immediately keep to the right and continue walking along the edge of the wood. To our left, we are treated to a sweeping view across the meadows and Bollschweil directly behind them.

(6) At the signpost for “Am Baubächle”, a path leads us to the left, taking us back to a wider path. We follow this to the right and cross the Baubächle. We now walk a short distance alongside the Möhlin and cross it shortly afterwards. We follow a path through the meadows.

(7) We then reach the L122. We cross this carefully (preferably at the bus stop and the traffic island). On the other side, we continue to follow the signs for “Rund um Bollschweil”, which now lead us to the left. Our walking route now runs parallel to the road for a short while.

(8) We reach Hexentalstraße on the outskirts of Bollschweil and follow it past the bus stop to number 26. There, a path leads us to the right and then immediately back to the left.

(9) At the signpost for “Bollschweil Am Friedhof”, we follow the signs to the right and come to the street “An der Langackergasse”, which we follow briefly to the right and then immediately turn left again. To our right are several sports fields.

(10) At the signpost for “Schulbach”, we turn left, cross the stream of the same name and turn left again immediately after it. We now walk along the stream for a while, with the Bollschweiler Hohfirstwald to our right.

(11) We reach the hamlet of Ellighofen, turn right onto “Am Rebberg” and then immediately left onto a path that takes us along the Eckbach. At the next opportunity, we turn right and then left onto Gewerbestraße. However, we leave this road again at the next opportunity and turn right, continuing along the Eckbach. Our route now runs along the edge of the forest once more.

(12) At the signpost “Bei den Steinzeithöhlen”, our trail leads us left across the Eckbach and shortly afterwards across the Möhlin. We pass a few houses and continue straight ahead, crossing the L122 again with due care. Shortly afterwards, we cross the Griesbach.

(13) We reach a junction at the signpost “Ring” and turn right. Through the woods, we return to the starting point at the Schopbachhütte.

(S/E) Anyone who wishes can take a final break here, and children now have the chance to let off some steam at the forest playground.
