Easy parking in a bend at the entrance to the hamlet of Engarvin.
(S/E) Cross the hamlet, passing in front of the Marcel Figas Museum. The start of the path appears naturally and the climb is steady and not too strenuous.
Cross a pretty stream and continue along the hillside.
(1) Stay on the path and ignore the fork to the right; you will return this way. Reach Col Saint-Michel, where you can see the paths coming from Coaraze opposite and a beautiful view of the Mercantour.
(2) Continue to the right and join marker 444.
(3) Climb up to the right towards the chapel and then the ruins.
The Château de Rocca Sparviera was the refuge of Queen Jeanne of Naples, who may have ordered the murder of her husband, Andrew of Hungary. According to legend, Andrew's brothers murdered Jeanne's children. She then burned down and cursed the castle.
Be careful of falling rocks. Once you find a safe spot, you can stop for a picnic. The ruins are striking and make for some beautiful photos.
(4) To leave, find the path on the right that descends through the terraces towards the valley, heading north.
This makes a circular loop and avoids going down the same path as you came up.
(5) Near the first gully (Ravin des Routas), don't miss the fork to the right and follow the path that joins the one used for the ascent further down.
(1) Turn left and follow the same route as on the way up to return to the hamlet and the car park (S/E).

very pleased to have made it a beautiful day
