To reach Coaraze from Nice, head up the Paillon valley towards Contes. At Pointe de Contes, follow the D15 to the left, which leads to Coaraze via Contes and Bendejun; the car park is located at the entrance to the village at the start of the Route du Col Saint-Roch.
(S/E) From the car park, take the road on the left which climbs towards the Chapelle Bleue, following the signpost. Pass marker 201 to reach the chapel and continue to marker 202.
(1) Take the track on your left and climb for about 100m until you reach marker 203 at the first hairpin bend, next to a water tank.
(2) Take the path on the right, leaving the track. It leads directly to Col Saint-Michel.
(3) Caution: after crossing the Riou Fred stream, the path is slippery. Follow the path for almost 3 km and, without any junctions, you will reach marker 443 at Col Saint-Michel.
(4) At the second marker 443, 10 metres further on, take the path directly in front of you. This steep path with several hairpin bends leads you to the Saint-Michel Chapel (marker 444).
(5) You will soon reach the Ruins of Rocca Sparvièra (Caution: take care in the ruins).
The return journey follows the same path back to the car park (S/E).
Great hike with a snack break at the chapel (respecting the place, of course)
