Departure from the small car park opposite the church in the village of Chalancon.
(S/E) Take the road uphill and, after leaving the village, head for the Via Ferrata car park at Pas de l'Échelle, just before the entrance to the gorges. Leave the road and take a small path that climbs to the left. Although not very visible at first, it soon becomes clearly marked. Pass a "flat area" (the former site of a castle) then the ridge, turning left to reach the north slope (the IGN map is not accurate). Continue along the mountainside, ignoring a faint trail on the left that climbs steeply, and continue for a few more metres. The path then begins a steady climb to reach the rock with its tower.
(1) Continue uphill for a few metres, following the ridge to the next plateau.
(2) At the crossroads (Rocher de Chalancon), continue along the path at the edge of the cliff. At the end of the woodland, turn right slightly downhill and cross the small cirque, following the edge of the woodland to reach the Pas de la Lune.
(3) Enjoy the view and retrace your steps to the previous crossroads.
(2) Take the path on the left down through the pine forest and join the road at Col de la Croix.
(4) Follow the road to the left until you reach the first hairpin bend.
(5) Leave the road and take the path on the left. Follow this path along the mountainside, pass the Pas de l'Échaillon and reach the village of Chalancon (S/E).
