The start of the hike is located in the car park at Col des Roustans between the villages of Volvent (4.3 km) and Chalencon (4.9 km). These two villages are on the D135 road between Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert and La Motte Chalencon.
(S/E) Take the DFCI track from the Col des Roustans cistern and then go around the first field on the right. The path then turns left, passes above the hamlet (Les Roustans) and arrives at a fork.
(1) Take the track on the right, cross a park gate, the Chaneaux ravine (the slope becomes steeper) then pass above an "impluvium" (water reservoir) and follow the track to the end.
(2) Continue along a faintly marked path, climbing slightly, heading north-east, to reach the bottom of the valley (altitude 1320) then climb a little further to reach two pine trees about ten metres apart.
(3) From there, head towards the Col de Volvent through the grasslands. Pass almost to the top of the first stretch of woods to reach a park fence, which you should follow through the woods to the gate at the Col de Volvent (altitude 1427).
(4) Make a round trip northwards, following the ridge more or less to La Berche (about 45 minutes' walk there and back).
(5) Retrace your steps to Col de Volvent.
(4) Head south to climb Gros Moure (altitude 1531).
(6) Continue southwards, following the ridge to the pylons, then downhill, following the tarmac track to the Col de l'Eriau (altitude 1,253 metres).
(7) Leave the track and continue along the ridge to the highest point of the Montagne de L'Eriau.
(8) Turn around, rejoin the track that winds down to the pylons below and follow it to the left, descending to the Col des Roustans car park (S/E).
