Description of the walk

Start from the car park in the centre of the village.

(S/E) Take the steps running alongside the car park to the north and continue along the paved slanting street opposite the steps. At the top, turn left onto Rue du Four, then right onto Rue du Mulet. Follow this steeply sloping street to the top of the village. When it turns left, continue straight on along the path until you reach a three-way junction.

(1) Turn right then continue along the path that climbs through the woodland. Ignore a turn-off to the left and you will soon reach a wide track. Continue to the left; the path is fairly easy, though steep in places, and winds its way to a stream, just before a sharp bend to the left.

(2) Turn right onto a visible path that is much less defined and hidden by tall grass. You will reach the edge of an abandoned orchard.

(3) An old car body indicates the small path to take on the left. This becomes more visible after about 70 m and winds its way until it joins a wide track again.

(4) Turn right and make your way gently down to the village, following the winding path.

(5) At the hairpin bend, ignore the turn-off to the hamlet of Le Théron on the left. Enjoy the view over the southern Oule Valley, the Aiguilles, Montagne du Raton and Rocher du Caire.
Continue the descent and, after a few hairpin bends, reach the car park in the centre of the village (S/E).

Done on 1 June 2025 – Lovely weather – A pleasant little walk, just as you’d imagine; a bit too much of a road for the descent. The village is well worth a visit.

This walk offers a wide variety of scenery; the start of the walk wasn’t easy to find – the directions weren’t clear enough – but we enjoyed the route

We did this walk with a 9-year-old and it took us 1 hour 20 minutes. The first half of the walk is uphill, but it’s not too difficult and is mostly shaded. The second half is an easy descent, but it’s all in the sun. A nice little walk.

A lovely little walk that you can combine with the descent to Lake Cornillon to make a nice loop

A nice little walk. The climb is pleasant, but the descent is a bit less interesting.

We chose this route because it was labelled ‘easy’, but I should point out that all the elevation gain comes at the start: 200 metres over 1 kilometre. I think ‘moderate’ would be a more accurate description. The descent is much more gradual. However, on the way back along the main track, we walked alongside some fenced-off fields (thankfully!), one of which had a flock of sheep in the distance. Despite stopping, keeping the dogs on a lead and walking calmly, more than six sheepdogs rushed towards us! And the makeshift fence didn’t deter them. Take particular care if you have dogs, though I don’t know how they would have reacted in other circumstances.
