Rifugio Andolla - Lago di Antrona

Passing through the mountain pastures of Piana Ronchelli and del Gabbio, a pleasant trail will take you to the shores of Lago dei Cavalli. After skirting the lake, you will cross the small hamlet of Cheggio. You will discover a few more mountain pastures before returning to civilisation at Antronapiana. This charming village is the lowest point of this tour. You will reach Lago di Antrona and the Albergo Lagopineta. Lago di Antrona is very busy during the day but in the evening, everything returns to calm.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Fletschorn Tour

Description of the walk

GTA and SFT red and white markings.

(S) From Rifugio Andolla, heading north-east, take the direction of Cheggio, Antronapiana. Take the path that descends gently towards Piana Ronchelli (oratory).

(1) Continue downhill, approaching Lago Alpe dei Cavalli and reaching Alpe del Gabbio.

(2) Follow the right bank of the Bacino dei Cavalli. Cross the dam and arrive at a small car park.

(3) Continue to the hamlet of Cheggio, turn right after the Oratorio di San Bernardo. Return to the road (SP141) at the exit of Cheggio.

(4) Follow the signs for Antronapiana, taking the path that cuts across and follows the bends in the SP141. After a long S-bend, take the SP141 for about 500 m and join the Alpe di Campo.

(5) At this point, leave the SP141 and take the path that cuts across several bends and rejoins the SP141 at a hairpin bend. Continue along the SP141 to Alpe Pianzei.

(6) Leave the SP141 and continue on the path towards Antronapiana. Enter the village via Via Pasquer.

(7) Cross Antronapiana on Via Pasquer, then turn left onto Via Marconi, then right onto Via Sant'Anna and come out onto Via Cimallegra at a pizzeria.

(8) Leave Antronapina via Via Cimallegra, pass a picnic area and look for a sign for Lago di Antrona on the right.

(9) Turn right onto this shaded path, which returns to Via Cimallegra about 700 metres further on.

(10) Return to Via Cimallegra for about 100 metres and look for a path on the left. Take this path and you will come to a road just next to a small car park.
Turn left onto the road and return to the Albergo Lagopineta in Alpe Russi (E).

very nice hike in piedmont near the swiss border. superb scenery and lakes. for fairly experienced hikers, given the distance and altitude difference.
