Description of the walk

Car park by the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Balme, on the side of the D59; anotheroption is on the side of the D936 at a hairpin bend between Thoirette and Corveissiat.

Signposting: Yellow

(S/E) Cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Balme. Leave the D59 road shortly after. Ignore the track leading to the farm and take the other track, following the Yellow Ring markings towards the Grotte de Corveissiat. Pass above the Ferme de la Balme (visible below on the left).

(1) Head up to the right for a round trip to the D936, where you can admire a magnificent panoramic view of the Gorges de l’Ain.

(2) Turn back and return to the previous junction.

(1) Continue uphill and reach the entrance to the Grotte de Corveissiat via some steps.

(3) At the cave, leave the site by going back down the steps and follow the path downhill which overlooks and runs alongside the Ruisseau de la Balme,

(4) A detour to the right offers a view of some lovely waterfalls (more or less impressive depending on the season). Continue to a footbridge over the stream. Cross it and continue the descent amongst moss-covered trees. Further down, you’ll reach the banks of the Ain and the car park (S/E).
