The starting point is located between Lutzelbourg and Saverne along the canal at a place called Stambach. The hike begins in Stambach. The car park is located near the water services building. To get there from Lutzelbourg, drive through the hamlet. Park on the right in the car park before the road on the right that crosses the railway line.
(S/E) Go under the railway line, turn left and rejoin the GR®531 (blue rectangle) to climb up to the right towards the Maisonnette de Pierres.
(1) Stay on the GR®531 to reach the Druids' Stone.
(2) Continue left to reach Krappenfels, where a beautiful view awaits you. Continue towards the ruins of Ochsenhstein Castle. Be careful not to slip on the ladders. Stay on the GR®531 to reach the Haberacker forest house
(3) Turn left onto theGR®53(red rectangle) and pass the Billebaum tree stump.
(4) Pass this crossroads to reach the Schaeferplatz forest house, where there is a picnic area
(5) Stay on the GR®53 and climb up to the Brotsch Cave.
(6) Continue on to Brotschberg.
(7) Descend to the Hexentisch (Witches' Table).
(8) Then pass by the numerous castle ruins, including Petit Géroldsek.
(9) Continue towards the Grand Géroldsek.
(10) Further on, pass the well-restored Chape Tower. This telegraph tower is an example of the communication that developed between Strasbourg and Paris.
(11) Shortly afterwards, you will come to the Château du Haut-Barr. Feel free to go inside and climb one of its towers for a sublime view.
(12) Stay on the GR®53 to descend to Saverne until you reach the Marne-Rhine Canal bridge, which you cross.
(13) Turn left onto the canal bank and follow it until you reach a staircase that takes you off the bank and across the road, where you rejoin the GR®531. A beautiful climb takes you to the ruins of Greifenstein Castle.
(14) Continue towards the Saint-Vit Cave and its garden (not to be missed).
(15) Still on the GR®531, head towards Rappenfels.
(16) Descend to your starting point via a beautiful path (S/E).
). The garden and cave at the end of the hike are also not to be missed! This is a magnificent hike, but it may be challenging for some people.
