Description of the walk

Starting point: the town hall and its multi-purpose hall, where you can easily park.

(S/E) Opposite the town hall, turn right towards Rousson.

(1) Take the first road on the right towards Prégirault. Pass the castle, then a wash house on your right, and carry straight on.

(2) At the end of this road, turn left. Ignore the first path on the left.

(3) Then take the second path on the left at a place called Les Grandes Vernes. Carry on to the right at the junction.

(4) At the end of the stony path, turn left towards the Étang de Rousson and continue to the hamlet of the same name to reach the D35.

(5) First turn left then right to cross at the pedestrian crossing and take the small road opposite. This turns into a wide stony track that runs alongside the Cher on your right.

(6) At the bridge, continue straight on, passing the silos on the left and then the Arnet farm, before coming out onto the D35.

(7) First turn left then right to join a path that quickly becomes grassy.

(8) Take the first path on your right, alongside the Ruisseau des Chaumes. Ignore the first path on the left.

(9) Take the next path to head back towards the village of Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes. Join the road, turn left, pass the stadium and return to the town hall (S/E).

Notes

Worth a visit

Prégirault Washhouse: a testament to life in the 19th century, this limestone washhouse, fed by a nearby spring, is rectangular in shape. Its sloping slabs in the water made it easier to scrub the laundry.

The church of Saint-Loup, with its 19th-century bell tower and porch, is closed to visitors except during local festivals such as the flea market, Saint-Loup Day and the Frog Festival.
Here you can admire a superb 17th-century polychrome wooden altarpiece.

This walking route can be combined with Chavannes and Vallenay.
