Walk along the shores of Lake Saint-Cassien in Montauroux

Enjoyable hike on the GR®49. Overlook the lake with magnificent views and let yourself be carried away by the small paths that will lead you to the lake's edge. Les Esterets du Lac is an estate that was created in the commune of Montauroux. It was a hunting ground on which trade unionists from Thompson and other companies planned to build a housing and commercial development. To this end, they formed a cooperative in 1970, "Le Soleil des Adrets", and began construction. After various ups and downs, a developer took over the work in 1991. This neighbourhood developed rapidly and its population, attracted by the charm of the site and its proximity to the lake and the motorway, now exceeds 1,400 inhabitants.

Description of the walk

Access: from Fayence or from the Adrets de l'Esterel motorway exit, head towards Esterets du Lac, at the junction between the D37 and D837. Cross the end of the lake and immediately after the junction, on the right, you will find the car park.

(S/E) From the car park, take the wide GR®49 trail. Follow it for a long time until you reach a junction with a trail that branches off to the right.

(1) Follow it to the right. At the next junction, take the track on the right (blue arrow on the ground and on the tree) downhill to the first junction.

(2) Continue straight ahead (blue arrow) on the track overlooking the lake. After a left turn, you will arrive at another crossroads of paths and tracks.

(3) Take a track on the right (blue sign). After a few metres, at the crossroads with the lake opposite, take a path on the right to reach the point (blue arrow). You can explore the shores. Otherwise, retrace your steps to the last crossroads and go straight ahead. At the next crossroads, turn right to reach the last access point to the lake shore.

(4) Retrace your steps and continue straight ahead to the junction on the way there.

(3) Do not take the track again, but continue to the right along a small path and continue straight ahead until you reach a wide track. At the crossroads, turn right until you reach the wide GR®49 track.

(5) Take it to the left. At the junction from the outward journey, continue straight ahead until you reach the next crossroads.

(1) Return via the same route as on the way there until you reach the car park (S/E).
