Stone Gate and Mutzig Rock from Place des Musiciens

To reach Place des Musiciens in Lutzelhouse, take Rue de la Fontaine opposite the town hall and cycle to Place des Musiciens.

(S/E) Head due north along the path signposted “Chêne de la Vierge”. After the oak tree, on the right is a sandstone sculpture called “Les trois têtes”. Continue to the Kegelplatz crossroads.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the path marked with a Green Ring. At the road, head up to the left to the Carrefour du Partage, where there is a^second sculpture in the shape of a pull-tab.

(2) Set off again straight ahead on the Red Ring-marked trail heading north-west and reach the second fork.

(3) Keep to the left and continue climbing along this path, now on the GR®53 marked with a Red Rectangle.

(4) At the junction, cross the forest road and continue along the path opposite, which further on turns south.

(5) Turn immediately right and continue to the next forest road.

(6) Cross the forest track and continue following the Red Rectangle markings. At the next forest track, head right for about 100 m.

(7) At the junction, turn left, start a short climb and after 30 m, turn right and climb the path marked with a Red Rectangle to reach the Porte de Pierre.

(8) Head off to the left, due west, towards the Rocher de Mutzig, following the same markings.

(9) At the crossroads, turn immediately left at the hairpin bend and continue the climb to the Rocher de Mutzig, at an altitude of 1,009 m, with a breathtaking panorama.

(10) Continue along the path; on the descent, after the large boulders, the path veers left but the sign is not very visible and the descent takes place amidst a jumble of rocks.

(11) At the Baraque aux Juifs, continue the descent to the left for 150 m along the Route Forestière de la Baraque aux Juifs.

(12) Leave the forest road to the right, follow the Yellow Ring marked trail through the forest and walk to the Schliffstein Shelter.

(13) Leave the shelter via the Pré du Narion Forest Road and follow the Red Rectangle and white-striped markings. At the Lumpestock junction, marked by the ‘Y’ sculpture on the Sentier des Géants, continue along the forest road to the Carrefour du Sentier Blanc junction.

(14) Head right into the forest on the path marked with a Red Rectangle crossed by a White Rectangle.

(15) After the bend, keep left and continue following the same markings.

(16) Take the forest road on your left and follow it to the Place des Musiciens (S/E).
