Description of the walk

The starting point is at the former Sperl Forest House in Lutzelhouse. To get there, take the D1420 towards Schrimeck and exit at Lutzelhouse. You will arrive on the main road that runs through the village. Turn right. After the descent, take thefirst street that goes up to the left, Rue Heydé, then thefirst street that goes up to the right, Rue du Sperl. Continue along this street to the end, turn left, and you have arrived. There is space to park several cars in the car park.

(S/E) Take the forest road heading north, marked with the Green Ring sign. It follows the contour lines and then descends to the bottom of the valley. Cross the Eimerbaechel stream.

(1) On the other side of the stream, turn right and take the path that climbs to the left above the forest road, marked with a blue ring. When you reach the forest road above, turn left towards the west, following the red disc markings.
After about 400 metres, the path begins to climb through the undergrowth to the right of the forest road, still marked with the Red Disc. The climb winds its way up to the top of the Rosinel Felse rock.

(2) Take the Red Disc marked trail again heading northeast. After crossing a forest of neatly aligned fir trees, take the wide trail on the left for about 400 metres to reach a crossroads.

(3) Turn 90° to the right. The trail begins to descend in a north-northeast direction, still marked with red discs. When you reach the forest road, turn right, walk about 100 metres and take the descent to the left. The trail leads you to the foot of the Soultzbach Waterfall.

(4) Leave the red disc markings and follow the yellow rectangle markings forthe GR®532. On the side of the waterfall, the path climbs up to the left via steps. When you reach the forest path above the waterfall, follow it to the left towards the west. Keep going in this direction until you reach the large crossroads where the village of Waldersbach once stood.

(5) Leave theGR®. Here you will find the Red Ring markings, which you will follow along the forest road, climbing southwards. After about 150 m, the path climbs to the right towards the south-west and joins another forest road after about 200 m. Follow it for about 200 metres, then leave it and turn left onto a path, still marked with the Anneau Rouge, which leads, after about 1.2 km, to a crossroads near a bridge over the Eimerbach stream.

(6) Take the path that climbs to the right. It makes a hairpin bend to the left and continues to climb gently to a crossroads. From this crossroads, you will see the Giant Sequoia on your right. Take the path and then the forest road that leads to it.

(7) Retrace your steps along the forest road and, just after the right-hand bend, leave it for the marked Anneau Rouge trail. It runs along the mountainside to the Carrefour des Deux Chênes.

(8) Now follow the Anneau Rouge marked forest road, which descends for about 1.4 km towards the east to the Ancienne Maison Forestière de Sperl (S/E).

Two highlights of this hike are the pretty Soultzbach waterfall and the giant sequoia tree. The route is pleasant and mostly runs through woodland. It does not present any major difficulties.

This is an ideal route when it is very hot, as it takes place almost entirely in the forest.
As someone who is familiar with Visorando walks, I am surprised that it is classified as "easy". Not that it presents any insurmountable difficulties, but its length, nearly 11 km, and its elevation gain would justify a classification of "moderate". This would not detract from the appeal of this walk, which is very pleasant due to its diversity and views.

A wonderful discovery in the Bruche Valley. A varied walk in the forest, taking 3½ hours including breaks.
The view from Rosinel Rock and the Soulzbach waterfall are particularly interesting points of interest.
The return leg takes a path through the middle of the forest, which has been affected by drought, unfortunately allowing you to see the impact of global warming on our mountains.

A pleasant surprise! Very varied, a little unusual, lots of trails. My wife and I did it in 2½ hours.
