Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the village hall in Muhlbach-sur-Bruche.

(S/E) Take Rue du Stade towards the village centre, heading east. Go past the roundabout, the Muhlbach and the bread machine and, at the crossroads, turn right along Rue de la Rivière for a few dozen metres until you reach the crossroads near the bridge over the Muhlbach.

(1) Leave the return route on your right and continue left towards Rue de Grendelbruch, then turn right. Ignore one street on the left and another on the right, and you will reach a fork in the road.

(2) Go up to the left along Rue de la Montagne, heading south-east. This street has a steep incline. At the top of Rue de la Montagne, you will see a statue of the Virgin Mary on your right.

(3) Enjoy the first beautiful view of the Rocher de Mutzig and the Bruche Valley on your left. Take the forest path on the right, going around the statue, and head south. Cross the Bois du Hahnenberg, ignore the paths on the left and continue to a crossroads at the edge of the forest, near the Mulhbach stream.

(4) Walk along the Muhlbach and the few houses on the right, and pick up the Anneau Bleu trail markers, heading south. The gradient becomes steeper towards the end of this climb before reaching the junction of the Mulhbach and Schirmeck roads.

(5) Cross (with caution) and head left, eastwards, for about a hundred metres. Turn right to leave the road and follow the blue ring markings, heading south-west, then north-west. This will take you to Piton du Falkensctein.

(6) Enjoy the view, then continue to follow the Anneau Bleu markings. The trail heads north-northwest until it joins a path coming from the left.

(7) Turn right. The path curves to the right, then to the left, and heads northeast to Route de Schirmeck (D204).

(8) Cross the road and follow it to the left for about 100 metres until you reach a left-hand bend. Leave the road and take the path heading north. Atthe first junction, turn left, then atthe second junction shortly after, turn right. Continue, keeping to the left. Further on, after a hairpin bend to the left, you will reach a junction offering a final viewpoint.

(9) Take the road on the left, heading west, enjoy one last view, then join Rue de la Forêt and walk down towards the centre of Muhlbach-sur-Bruche. At the end, take Rue de la Rivière on the right, towards the crossroads you came to on the way there.

(1) Turn left, following the route in reverse, and return to the car park at the village hall (S/E).
