Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the end of Anse du Guesclin in the bend of the D201. Please note that the car park is very busy during the summer. Accessible by bus.

GR®34: white and red markings

(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto the coastal path and walk along the right-hand side of an eco-grazing area. As you walk along, you will have a view of Fort du Guesglin and the various beaches. Reach Pointe du Nid, where the view extends eastwards to Pointe du Grouin, which closes off the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, and the Chausey Islands on the horizon.

(1) Continue along the path, which gradually descends under a tunnel of greenery. You will overlook the small Petit Port beach, which you will reach quickly.

(2) Go around this beach and head back up, still following the marked coastal path, towards the protected area of Pointe des Daules. Just before you get there, a sign on the right, about 100 metres away, points to the Daules guardhouse, a beautiful building dating from around 1740.

(3) Retrace your steps, then go around Pointe des Daules and continue along the customs officers' path, which gradually descends towards Plage du Verger. Walk along this beach on a sandy path. On your right, you will see an area of coastal marshes. Turn left to go up under a tunnel of greenery, still on theGR®. Continue to the next fork, where you leave theGR®.

No markings

(4) Leave theGR® trail to continue along the coastal path and turn right onto a sunken lane. You will come to a crossroads.

Yellow PR markings

Continue straight ahead with the marshy area on your right. Turn right at the edge of the campsite, continue straight ahead along the edge of the fields and arrive at a road near a house at a place called La Barre on the map. Turn right at the hairpin bend, leaving thePR®, and follow the path that leads to the Notre-Dame du Verger Chapel.

(5) After visiting the chapel (which is open), return to the road to rejoin the D201. Cross it with extreme caution and turn into Rue de Hurlevent opposite. Follow this street to the D201.

(6) Just before the stop sign, turn left onto a path that starts in a wooded area, then continue through a wet meadow crossed by a stream and come out onto a road that you take to the right. At the junction with the D201, follow it to the right, then turn left at the top of the dune to reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

In summer, the beaches are crowded, but not the coastal path.
TheGR® ®34 markings are a little faded, but the coastal path is clearly visible.

Beautiful beaches.

Worth a visit

Fort Du Guesglin. Léo Ferré lived here until 1968, composing many songs, including "La Mémoire et la mer" (Memory and the Sea).

Daules guardhouse

Anse du Verger is flanked to the west and east by two rocky points: Pointe des Daules and Pointe de la Moulière. The juxtaposition of a dune cordon, a coastal marsh and a vast expanse of moorland surrounding a fine sandy beach explains the great ecological richness of this privileged coastal area.

Notre-Dame du Verger Chapel and its marine ex-votos.

The end of the trail was a bit tricky, probably due to the heavy rains of recent weeks, which had flooded the path.
Otherwise, a very nice hike.

A lovely walk along the coast. Best done in September when it's not too busy. Not too long, it can be done in mixed weather. Only the beach is off-limits to dogs, which isn't too much of a problem at the end of the season.

Living not far away, I knew the route between the two beaches, which I rediscovered with pleasure.
However, I had never really ventured down the side paths before, and it was really nice.
The map was well designed, so we were able to cut/shorten the route a little, as we didn't have time to stop at the beach, which was great!
I enjoyed the combination of an easy hike, even with young children, discovering the lookout post and then the beautifully restored chapel, the opportunity to enjoy the beach a little (even though we didn't do so, it was tempting), and the return trip through the fields.
Very comprehensive and not too long. Many thanks.

Hello,
Is this hike possible with a dog? Are dogs allowed on the beaches?

Pointe du Grouin: a very beautiful but challenging hike. GR34 on the Cancale side has numerous steps, and GR 34 on the other side has numerous rocks.
Anse du Verger, a very beautiful and easy hike.
