(S) Departure from the car park at the southern entrance to the village of Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez.
Note: There are two car parks in the village of Sainte-Croix. The first is on the right, right next to the Chartreuse, and is reserved for locals (signposted).
You will need to park further south in the car park reserved for visitors and hikers (signposted).
Leave the car park the same way you entered (via the road or the steps at the end of the park). Turn left onto the bridge, pass the hotel next to the Chartreuse buildings. Immediately take a path on the left, running alongside the buildings on the left and the stream on the right. Cross the stream via the small bridge to the right and follow this path for 50 metres until it joins the D30 road. Cross the road and take the other road opposite, which climbs towards Thesay and Jurieux. Pass in front of the Chapelle de Jurieux and turn right.
(1) At the next crossroads 100 metres further on, turn right then left. The road becomes a track. At the crossroads at altitude 588, turn left and join a wide track at Les Roches de Marlin, which you will find in the middle of the vegetation.
(2) Turn right and follow the track along the ridge, where you can make a return trip to the right to reach the Croix de Marlin at altitude 655. Reach the crossroads above the hamlet of Marlin.
(3) Turn left and descend to the Croix de Crème at an elevation of 584 metres, located on the left on the slope at a fork. Turn right onto the forest road. At the first crossroads, ignore the turn-off on the left and continue straight ahead. Ignore a road on the right that you will find again further on at an elevation of 546 metres and arrive at a fork at an elevation of 528 metres. Turn left and follow the road along the edge of the forest until you reach the D28 road at Dizimieux.
(4) Cross the D28 and turn right onto the small road that leads to the village, passing the cemetery on your left and then the church on your right. Go straight through the village (Rue du Village and Rue des Sagnes) to reach the D28 opposite at the Grand Croix.
(5) Follow the road for about 20 metres, then, at the right-hand bend, take the grassy path on the far right that descends into the meadow opposite. Follow this path, which winds through the undergrowth and crosses two streams. Follow a beautiful path bordered by a wall of stacked stones, running alongside a stream at the bottom of the ravine on your left. You will rejoin the D28. Cross the bridge.
(6) At the end of the bend in the road, take the path up to the right towards Longes. Turn left at the first houses (Chemin de Suzieux) and join the main road through the village.
(7) Turn right and cross the village of Longes, passing the church on your left. Ignore the cemetery road (D625) on your right. At the next crossroads, turn right onto Rue du Château. Ignore a street (Allée des Soeurs) on your right. Rue du Château then turns left. 50 metres after the bend, leave Rue du Château and follow the hairpin bend to the right onto Chemin de la Madone. You will reach a fork after 50 metres with a dirt track opposite.
(8) At the fork, leave the road on your left and follow the dirt track straight ahead. This track becomes a road as it runs alongside the lodge on your left. After 100 metres, leave the road on your right and follow the path uphill opposite.
(9) Follow the path uphill to the left with a cross in the middle and pass under the sheds located high up on the left. Walk along the La Garde farm on your right. Continue to the Croix de Garde. At the crossroads after the cross, turn right downhill. You will arrive at a three-way junction with many roads and paths, at the Croix du Trève.
(10) Cross the road, follow the path downhill on the left along the edge of the meadow and cross a stream. The path climbs back up and joins a road.
(11) Cross the road and take the road opposite, running alongside the houses on your right. At the next fork, turn right and continue to the junction with the D30 and the village of Ste Croix. Cross the road, leaving the Chartreuse buildings on your right, then take the first street on the right to return to the starting point.
Very pleasant hike with magnificent views of the Pilat grasslands, dotted here and there with pine forests. The paths are very easy to walk on, and we didn't encounter any difficulties. The villages we passed through were also very pretty. We completed the hike in five hours
