Coming from Lordes, head towards Argelès-Gazost, then Luz-Saint-Sauveur. In Luz, take the D918 and park in a small car park in the penultimate bend before the Col du Tourmalet.
Coming from Bagnères-de-Bigorre, take the D8, at Sainte-Marie de Campan, take the D918 and park in the same place, i.e. at the second bend after the Col du Tourmalet.
(S/E) At the bend (altitude 1,944 m), take the path that heads north into the meadow. It quickly turns and heads northwest, then west. It follows a contour line, climbing slightly until it reaches a fork.
(1) Continue straight ahead at a sharp angle and leave the path that leads to Lac Vert and Lac Bleu. The trail quickly gains altitude and arrives at a flat area at around 2,150 m (Couret d'Oncet).
(2) Continue to follow the trail as the slope levels out. Approach the Ruisseau d'Oncet and catch sight of the imposing Pic du Midi. You will reach a fork.
(3) The path on the right is a shortcut that leads directly to the Pic road. Continue straight ahead and you will reach Lac d'Oncet.
(4) After a short rest by the lake, follow the track on the right which joins the road.
(5) Take the road on the left and reach the Col de Sencours and the ruins of an old inn.
(6) The climb becomes steeper and, after four hairpin bends, reaches the disused Laquets hotel.
(7) Take one more hairpin bend and look for a hairpin path on the left that climbs up the rocky slope. The road does not go much further.
(8) Take this path, climb steadily and, after several hairpin bends, you will reach the summit. Pass under some rails, climb a few steps, go through a gate and you will reach the terrace reserved for hikers.
(9) At the summit of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the landscape is spectacular. There are views of all the peaks to the east of the Ariège and the Luchonnais to the west, as far as the Béarn mountains, including all the legendary peaks of the Massif du Néouvielle opposite.
Take the same route back to the car park (S/E).
