From Barèges, head towards the Col du Tourmalet (D918) and stop at the Toue hairpin bend in the small car park at an elevation of 1944 metres.
(S/E) From the car park (altitude 1944 m), follow the level path to the left of the road, which crosses well above the flat area of the eponymous shepherd’s hut. It crosses the beds of several streams and then heads westwards until it reaches a junction of paths at around 1970 m.
(1) Continue for about 100 metres along theGR®®10Copposite, marked in red and white, until a second junction at around 2000 m.
(2) Let theGR®®10Cbranch off to the right and continue straight on along the path, now marked in yellow. Follow this long traverse to reach the Vallon d’Aoube, which the path then climbs up, passing on the right-hand side of a first grassy cirque. Then climb a rocky outcrop to the right of a rocky promontory and reach a junction at the 2221m mark.
(3) Ignore the path coming from the right and continue straight on towards the wetland of the former Lac d’Aouda. Walk along its right-hand side, cross a grassy plateau, then climb up the opposite slope, mostly over scree, following the path leading to the Col d’Aoube at an elevation of 2369 metres.
(4) Cross over to the other side, following the marked, straight path that stays on the right-hand side of the valley. It passes well above a pastoral clearing (with a hut and stone enclosure) and continues to the right towards a small hanging valley. It zigzags between small hillocks and then overlooks Lac Vert. As you round the next ridge, Lac Bleu comes into view.
(5) Option: the path continues northwards, then descends via a tricky section at Pas de Bouc to reach the spillway of Lac Bleu.

The return journey follows the same route, crossing the Col d’Aoube once more to reach the Toue bend (S/E).
