Park in the Col du Tourmalet car park (altitude 2115 m), which is quite busy between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in summer (view of La Mongie).
(S/E) Walk up and along the Maison du Tourmalet (accessible by steps) then take the gravel road opposite which climbs up the mountainside. You can't miss the route as it is the old access road to the observatory, Route du Pic du Midi. Go around the Pic du Tourmalet (altitude 2486) on your right. After a wide right-hand bend, you will reach a viewpoint overlooking the Pic du Tourmalet.
(1) Enjoy the view and continue along the road until you reach a refreshing tunnel after about 150 metres.
(2) Once through the tunnel, you are halfway there. Further on, at the end of a right-hand bend, there is a breathtaking view of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre (altitude 2,876 metres) and, on your left, below, the Lac d'Oncet.
(3) Continue towards the Col de Sancours and you will reach a crossroads.
(4) Ignore the path that descends to the lake on the left and continue north for about 500 metres to find the start of a small trail. Option of a round trip to Col de Sencours.
(5) Descend to the left via the small path and reach Lac d'Oncet.
(6) Take a short break at the lake, surrounded by the Col de Sencours and Pic d'Oncet.
Return via the same route to the Maison du Col du Tourmalet (S/E).
