Park in the Tournaboup car park, on the left as you climb from Barèges towards the Col du Tourmalet.
(S/E) Cross the road and head straight into the valley. After barely 200 metres, you can either veer slightly to the left, following theGR®®10markings, or continue straight ahead, following what is a ski slope in winter. The track crosses the stream, allowing you to continue along the western slope towards the old road: the Voie Laurent Fignon, now closed to traffic.
You will soon reach the stone bridge at La Gaubie.
(1) Cross the car park and rejoin theGR®®10and the road. Take theGR®®10on the right towards the bottom of the valley.
You can just about make out the ruins of the Gaubie huts on the right after 200 metres.
(2) Join a track suitable for vehicles and continue in the same direction until you reach two concrete bridges.
(3) Cross them to cross two streams. The second comes from Lac dets Coubous.
From there, the path winds its way uphill. This is where the steepest slope of the hike is located.
You will reach an artificial cave in the mountain, with a resurgence of the stream indicating your arrival at the first lake.
(4) Continue on to a small dyke that surrounds Lac dets Coubous at the end. The hut of the same name is on the left.
(5) Continue around Lac dets Coubous on the left, the path climbs to Lac de la Jonquère, aptly named as it is covered with rushes.
(6) Pass to the left of the lake and then climb a few dozen metres to reach the crossroads of Lac Blanc and Lac de Tracens.
(7) Leave Lac Blanc on your right and continue left on the short climb that leads to Lac de Tracens.
(8) Begin the descent and return via the same route to reach the Tournaboup car park (S/E).
