Circular route starting from the Col de Jausse

A hike featuring various sections through woodland, with unobstructed views of the Lyon metropolitan area, and some sections along a small tarmac road (with little traffic).

Description of the walk

Park at the Col de la Fausse

(S/E) Take the Chemin de la Milonière towards La Milonière and join thefirst path on the right.

(1) Follow this path uphill to reach a field. Walk along the right-hand side of the field until you reach a fork at the corner.

(2) Take the path on the right at the edge of the woods, heading towards the Bois du Barthélémy, and follow it along the contour line. Cross over to the other side of the ridge (elevation 654) by veering left. Continue, keeping to the left at the edge of the woods, until you reach the road leading to the hamlet of Les Jumeaux.

(3) Turn left and follow the road. Pass Les Jumeaux and, at the junction, continue right onto Chemin de Pierre Folle. Cross Les Jumeaux du Sud and head along Chemin du Soupa until you reach a left-hand bend (elevation 726).

(4) At the bend, take the dirt track that continues from the road. Follow it to the next junction (about 500 m) and turn left. At the next fork, turn right and continue to the road. Take this road to the left towards Le Soupat.

(5) At the entrance to Le Soupat, take the hairpin bend to the right, follow it for 100 m and turn left onto a poorly marked path before entering the woods. Walk downhill for about 100 metres until you reach a fork.

(6) Continue to the left and take the path that runs along the old aqueduct and follows the contour line to the Ruisseau de la Milonière, ignoring the paths branching off to the right and left.

(7) Just after crossing the stream, turn right (continuing straight on takes you back to the Jumeaux du Sud). At the next fork, take a sharp right-hand bend towards Les Malettes and rejoin the Milonière at a wooden cross.

(8) Turn left and continue straight on to the Col de la Fausse (S/E).

A pleasant walk.

Between landmarks 5 and 6: we cross a field that appears to be private property??...

A lovely walk – many thanks to the person who mapped it out. We did it on a very sunny day in June and appreciated that most of the route was in the shade. That said, there are plenty of clearings where you can admire the scenery. The elevation gain is manageable. The paths are clear and pleasant. Except at point no. 5: the path isn’t very visible and you really need to rely on your GPS.
Otherwise, as already mentioned by other users, it is quite difficult to park right next to the start, but you can manage a little further away.

The route is often shared with mountain bikes, so please take care.
Two sections no longer match the route markings on the website, so please be careful.
A lovely little route!

1. There is no convenient parking. To reach the starting point by car, you have to take a very narrow forest track, on which it is impossible to pass a car coming in the opposite direction. We drove to the starting point via the Pierre Folle track and stopped at point 1, as there was space for 1–2 cars at the side of the road and room to turn round. At the starting point, there is also space for a maximum of 1–2 cars.

2. There is no access between points 5 and 6 as a local farmer has fenced off the field with an electric fence. Consequently, from point 5, you must proceed through the forest and then return via a parallel path that runs below. See the map.

3. Apart from the inconveniences mentioned, it was a lovely walk through the forest on easy-to-walk paths.

A lovely little walk to get back into the swing of things. We missed the turn-off after the soupat – “on the left, along a poorly marked path before entering the woods”. But it didn’t matter, because by carrying on, we rejoined the path after a short circular loop, keeping to the left the whole time!
A lovely walk combining woodland and open terrain. Beautiful views.
