By car: drive through the centre of Vaugneray towards Col de Malval via Rue de Malval. Pass the statue of the Virgin Mary on your left and, after 60 metres, you will find the entrance to the car park through a gate on the right, just before Rue Claude Cros.
(S/E) Return to the entrance gate, turn right and go up Rue Claude Cros. At the top, at the fork, leave Rue du Pantin on your right. Continue along Rue Claude Cros on the left until you reach a crossroads.
(1) At the La Maletière sign (altitude 452 m), follow Rue du Laval to the left, towards La Roche Coucou via the GR®89 (north-west). After about 400 m, at the fork, ignore Chemin de la Goyette on the right. Continue along the street, which turns left, until you reach a crossroads.
(2) Ignore the first path on the left, 20 m before the hairpin bend. At the hairpin bend, leave the street turning right and take the GR®89 path opposite (west). It leads to a street in the hamlet of Montferrat. Follow it to the right. After 50 m, at the intersection, go up the street on the right for 20 m. At the fork, leave the street and take the ascending path on the left until you reach an intersection.
(3) Take the street on the left (west). Go around the hairpin bend and, 100 m further on, you will come to a fork. Leave the dead-end branch on the right. Continue on the GR®89 along the street on the left, which continues as a stony path (an old Roman road).
(4) Opposite a campsite, you will see the Roche Coucou sign (altitude 612 m). Continue climbing opposite and you will reach a fork. Leave the path opposite. Continue on the GR®89 to the left until you reach an intersection.
(5) At the Croix Rouge sign (altitude 700 m), leave the GR®89 straight ahead. Turn right onto a yellow-marked path towards Col de la Luère. At the fork 300 m further on, ignore the forest track going up to the left. Continue straight ahead on the marked path, which is almost level. Ignore the next two paths on the left, the first after 600 m and the second 100 m further on, continuing straight ahead to reach Col de la Luère.
(6) At the Col de la Luère sign (altitude 715 m), located to the left of the crossroads, follow the signs for Les Marollières via the D24 towards Chevinay and Bessenay. After about 100 metres, leave the road and descend to the right onto a yellow-marked trail. Turn left and, 100 m further on, at the fork, ignore the path on the left. Continue on the right-hand path, marked with a mountain bike sign. Continue downhill, ignoring the crossroads. At the edge of the forest, you will come to a crossroads with an orientation table on the left-hand side.
(7) At the Les Marollières sign (altitude 500 m), head straight ahead towards Le Vieux Bourg.
(8) At the Vieux Bourg sign (altitude 400 m), cross the D24E2 and head towards Petit Saint-Bonnet via the Chemin du Marion, which descends opposite. At the bottom of the valley, leave the dirt track on your left. Cross the stream and walk up the street to reach an intersection.
(9) At the Le Petit Saint-Bonnet sign (altitude 417 m), ignore the street on the left towards the hamlet. Turn right onto Chemin du Chambon towards Saint-Pierre-la-Palud. Descend to the bottom of the valley, follow the stream and reach an intersection in a bend. Ignore the road on the left towards Les Bornes. Cross the bridge on the right and go up Chemin des Bornes. After 100 m, ignore the path on the right. Continue climbing on the left until you reach a fork.
(10) Leave the left fork. Continue on the right, ignore two streets on the right and reach an intersection. Go up the street on the right for 60 m. At the crossroads, turn left, ignoring the two streets on the right. Take the street slightly to the left. After 150 m, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead for 200 m along Rue des Craques until you reach a car park on the left.
(11) At the Saint-Pierre-la-Palud sign (altitude 389 m), at the entrance to the car park, follow the signs for Pugny. Cross the car park towards the wooden barrier. Go through it via a chicane that leads to a path crossing vegetable gardens. At the end of the path, turn right and go to a roundabout.
(12) At the Pugny sign (altitude 396 m), follow signs for La Perrollière. Go down Chemin de Pugny, opposite, into the roundabout (second street on the right). At the bottom, at the fork, ignore the street on the left. Turn right onto Montée des Charmilles, 20 m further on, and you will reach an intersection in a bend.
(13) At the La Perrollière sign (altitude 365 m), head towards La Ronfière via Chemin Ampère on the left. After 400 m, cross Chemin de la Perrollière and continue straight ahead on a dirt track, which is often muddy. Pass in front of the greenhouses to reach Chemin de la Ronfière. Follow it to the right and continue to a crossroads, towards a level crossing in Sain-Bel.
(14) At the La Ronfière sign (altitude 246 m), head towards Les Mines via the D24E 2 towards Chevinay Saint-Pierre-la-Palud, the first road on the right. Follow it for 200 m and turn left onto Chemin de Buth, going up in the opposite direction. Go through a hairpin bend and, 400 m further on, leave the road and take the dirt track on the left for 1 km, then descend to the Route des Mines. Do not cross the bridge on the left. Turn right to reach a fork in the road.
(15) At the Les Mines sign (altitude 300 m), take Chemin du Contresens on the left, towards Chemin des Mineurs. Cross the bridge and go up Route de Sain-Bel. Cross it to climb a path, turn left at the top onto Route du Gervais and continue to an intersection 50 m further on. Leave the road. Turn right onto Impasse du Marbre.
(16) At the Chemin des Mineurs sign (altitude 340 m), ignore the path on the left. Take the path straight ahead, towards Les Roches. Join Rue du Sarrazin and go up it on the left. Take the right-hand bend, ignoring the streets on the left, and at the crossroads, cross Rue des Roches, marked with a white cross.
(17) At the Les Roches sign (altitude 330 m), follow the signs for Chemin du Pape, going down the street towards the place du chevalement. Continue along the dirt track lined with hedges. Go up the steps, turn right and cross the bridge. At the crossroads, leave the road opposite and ignore the road on the left towards Marcy-l'Etoile/Lyon. Turn left onto the next small street, Chemin du Pape. Follow it for 50 m until you reach an intersection.
(18) At the Le Chemin du Pape sign (altitude 342 m), ignore Chemin du Ruisseau on the right and climb the road opposite, towards Bois Charnay. At the top, turn left onto Route d'Arcy and, after 30 m, leave it to climb Route de la Montagne on the right. At the intersection, ignore Chemin du Brossard on the left and continue straight ahead. Pass the hamlet of La Montagne and, near the Duperret farm, leave the path on the right and continue straight ahead. At the intersection 400 m further on, ignore the path on the left and continue straight ahead along the edge of a wood until you reach a crossroads.
(19) At the Bois de Charnay sign (altitude 535 m), ignore the paths opposite and on the left. Turn right towards the Col de la Croix du Ban. Crossing the Bois Charnay requires a little attention due to the numerous paths criss-crossing it. At intersections, the path is not always marked, nor are the cross paths marked with a cross. So, if there are no signs, continue straight ahead to reach the Col de la Croix du Ban car park.
(20) At the Col de la Croix du Ban sign (altitude 604 m), inside the bend on the D610, take the path towards Croix du Ban.
(21) At the Croix du Ban sign (altitude 600 m), ignore the paths towards Les Marollières (west), Vers le Col de la Luère (south-west) and the one between the two. Head towards Lamure (south-east). The path through the woods climbs slightly before descending again. Ignore the side paths along the way. Cross the D610 road and go down the path opposite to reach a crossroads. Ignore the path on the left and the one straight ahead. Turn right and, 400 m further on, you will rejoin the D610.
(22) At the Lamure sign (altitude 485 m) on the left, ignore the signposted direction towards Pollionnay. Turn right onto the D610 road. Follow it for 50 m and descend Chemin de Lamure on the left. At the intersection, just before the reservoir, ignore Chemin du Bouillon on the right. Continue along Chemin des Presles opposite.
(23) At the next intersection, leave the path opposite. Descend to the right onto the Plate path marked in yellow, cross the stream and after 250 m you will reach a crossroads.
(24) At the La Sigodière sign (altitude 410 m), ignore the roads on either side. Take the muddy path opposite, aptly named Chemin Creux, towards La Quinsonnière.
(25) At the La Quinsonnière sign (altitude 382 m), turn right onto the D70 road. Carefully walk along the right-hand side of the road, pass the bend protected by a guard rail and, at the end of it, leave the road. Climb the muddy dirt track on the right and join the D24 road.
(26) At the Couvent de la Visitation sign (altitude 455 m), follow the signs for La Maletière. Cross the D24 and take Rue des Mésanges opposite. You will reach an intersection 50 m further on. Go up the street on the right and, after another 50 m, turn left at the fork onto Chemin des Gouttes. After 500 m, at the crossroads, cross Rue du Recret and continue straight ahead on Rue de la Maletière to find the sign for La Maletière.
(1) Walk down Rue Claude Cros. At the bottom of the street, you will find the car park (S/E).
