Around Rennemoulin via Les Bordes

The walk begins in Rennemoulin, following the Ru de Gally to Les Bordes in Villepreux. The route heads back up towards the sports facilities in Villepreux, circles round the rear of Villepreux Castle and joins the Voie Royale, which leads back to Rennemoulin. This short walk offers the chance to admire the landscapes of the Versailles plain from the heights of Villepreux and to explore the village of Rennemoulin.

Description of the walk

Park in the small car park on Rue du Moulin, next to the Ru de Gally.

(S/E) Take the path running alongside the Ru de Gally.

(1) Cross the bridge to reach the other bank, continue along the stream, then cross it again and head towards the RD12 at the bottom of the Côte de Paris.

(2) Cross the road with care, turn right and head towards the roundabout. Turn left and, taking the same care, join the RD161, which is known here as Rue Amédée Brocard.

(3) After crossing the Ru de Gally, cross the road and take Rue Le Nôtre on the right. At the bend, continue straight on along Chemin de la Corderie, passing a small car park. Return to Rue Amédée Brocard (D161), which you should follow carefully by turning right.

(4) At Chemin de la Cavée, start the climb to the left leading to the Villepreux sports ground. Cross Chemin Brunin and continue straight ahead on the path running alongside the sports facilities, then take Allée de Gally at the end, which leads to Avenue du Général de Gaulle.

(5) Turn left to go down the avenue. After the town hall, turn right onto Chemin Entre les Deux Murs and continue round the Château de Villepreux.

(6) Before beginning the descent towards Les Bordes, turn right to follow Chemin de Villepreux, which leads to the Val de Gally cemetery. Cross the D12 carefully at the top of the Côte de Paris and take Chemin de l’Avenue de Villepreux opposite.

(7) Cross the bridge over the Ru de l'Oisemont and continue to the T-junction.

(8) Turn left onto Chemin de Rennemoulin, pass the town hall and head for the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Near the (S/E), on the other side of the Ru de Gally, the Saint-Nicolas Chapel is the former12th-century parish church, converted into a barn within the estate acquired in 1919 by the Pasteur Institute and renovated thanks to sponsorship from various companies, as well as grants from the department and the inter-municipal authority. Purchased by the local council, it has been converted into a multi-purpose venue designed to host religious services, seminars, concerts and weddings.

The Saint-Nicolas wash house (13th century), located on Rue du Moulin, is adjacent to a chapel dedicated to this saint.

This route is the one I mapped out (but didn’t publish) for my walking group. Thanks to Eugène90 for taking the time to post some great routes in my part of the Yvelines. It’s a really lovely and interesting route. The view of the Palace of Versailles is well worth it. Not to be done when it’s too hot, as the route is exposed.
As there were quite a few of us, we parked in the car park at the Alain Mimoun Sports Centre, near the Villepreux sports grounds – it’s spacious and easy to access. Except when there’s a funfair!
In short, this route was very much enjoyed and I highly recommend it
