Description of the walk

The route starts from the road leading to the Chartreuse de Sélignac, just before reaching its surrounding wall, at the statue of Saint Martin (St Martinus Siligniaci).

(S/E) Follow the road towards the Chartreuse and, fairly quickly, take the path along the wall (yellow and yellow-redGR® de Pays markings). Shortly after passing under a bridge, you will reach a fork in the path.

(1) Take the path on the right towards Corveissiat (yellow and yellow-redGRP® markings). Not far away, at asecond fork, go left uphill (always follow the markings): the climb is a little steep at first, then levels off for a while at almost the same altitude. After a while, you will reach a fork.

(2): Follow the path to the left (no signs or markings) uphill. Once you reach the ridge, you will come to a junction.

(3): Continue left on the path towards Corveissiat via the Balcon de Sélignac.
The route runs more or less parallel to a line of cliffs, following a winding path through a wooded area of box trees. Along the way, enjoy the clear views, particularly of the Chartreuse mountains (be careful of the cliff) . After a descent, you will reach a road (RD936) near a transmitter.

(4) Continue along the road on the right for about 150 m (be very careful of traffic) then turn left onto a small road. Continue straight ahead at thefirst crossroads and continue to the outskirts of the hamlet of Lavillat.

(5) Continue left uphill, avoiding the hamlet (follow the yellow markings). At the junction, turn right, then after a descent, join a small road at the bottom of a valley.

(6) Follow the road on the right uphill for about 600 m, which leads to Arnans.

(7) At a hairpin bend, continue straight ahead on a path. After a descent, you will reach a road (RD936).

(8) Cross the road with great caution and take a path on the right going downhill.

(1) At the fork you saw earlier near the Pont de l'Abbaye, return to the starting point by retracing your steps (S/E).

The climb up to point 3 is laborious and not particularly interesting. There are lots of fallen trees on the path and we heard another one fall while we were walking, so it's best to be careful.
There are lots of ticks along the ridge path (I was bitten by four and removed twice that number because I had the misfortune of wearing shorts...).
However, as soon as the view clears, the hike becomes interesting again and the walk through the wooded countryside is very pleasant.

Done on very muddy terrain... fallen trees sometimes hindering progress uphill... magnificent route along the ridges. Many thanks to the Visorando app for following the route... an audible reminder in case of errors... the best!

A very beautiful route with a little snow. The view of the monastery is always magical, and the sunshine was perfect, with a few animals along the way, such as a donkey, which was nice.

Quite disappointed.
At the start, you can admire part of this beautiful monastery, but after that, there are only two tiny viewpoints from which to see it from above.
Up to point 4, the path is mostly in the shade with no visibility except for these two points.
Then you come out of the woods, but there is tarmac and a stony path with no views.
The descent is difficult because there are lots of rocks and water, making the path slippery.
High heels and flip-flops are not recommended; hiking boots and walking sticks are essential on this route. Between points 1 and 2, numerous fallen trees block the path.
On the plus side, the trail is very well marked, so you don't need a GPS.

Between points 1 and 2, in the slightly more difficult part of the climb, there are a few fallen trees that make progress difficult or even impossible for people with reduced mobility (older people).

The section between points one and two is a bit tricky with lots of fallen trees.
