Park next to the church in Arnans.
(S/E) Cross the road and take the carriage road (Rue du Château) which leads out of the village. Ignore the entrance to the cemetery on the left and continue straight on this road, which turns into a footpath after a woodcut on the left. A little further on, you will see small signs indicating a viewpoint.
(1) When you reach the viewpoint overlooking the abbey, you will see a cross fixed to the rock. Turn back and follow the path downhill to the left. Cross the path you will take for the descent, then climb slightly uphill following the path that leads to a statue of Christ.
(2) Statue on a pedestal, inside a small wrought iron enclosure. On the IGN map, the location is marked with a cross. Interesting viewpoint towards Bourg-en-Bresse. Return along the same path to the crossroads and start the descent to the right; the path is in good condition and the descent is gradual. You will arrive in front of the large gate of the Chartreuse, a very beautiful building. Then take the gently sloping road that runs along the abbey wall.
(3) Turn left at the end of the surrounding wall and follow it along the lower part of the estate. A little further on, streams flow out at the bottom of the wall and wooden crossings allow you to avoid getting your feet wet.
Continue along the path, passing under the bridge on the Bourg road. An excavation with a small waterfall gives this place its character.
(4) Take the path ascending to the left towards Arnans and you will quickly reach the departmental road leading to Bourg-en-Bresse.
(5) Cross carefully due to traffic and continue along the path on the other side of the main road, which slopes upwards. You will come to a small road at a hairpin bend. Continue to the left to reach the church (S/E).
