The route starts from the car park of the municipal campsite in Chavannes-sur-Suran.
Clear yellow signposting throughout the route.
(S/E) Cross the bridge over the Suran towards the football pitch, then take the tarmac path on the left and continue to the first junction.
(1) Turn right into Rue des Séserts, then left into Rue du Leat and a little further on, turn right.
(2) Behind the last house in the hamlet of Chavuissiat le Petit, take the path on the left that climbs, then turn right.
(3) At the Y-junction, take the path on the left that goes downhill, passing under a power line, and arrive at the hamlet of Sous les Vignes
(4) At the end of the path, turn right onto the road and follow it, as well as the signposts, heading north-east.
(5) At the pretty little bridge in the village of Lasserra, continue straight on and, further on, take the hairpin bend onto the path on the right. Watch out, it’s going to be a climb.
(6) Go through the cattle gate and continue straight on, following the GRP® signposts.
(7) At the signposts, follow signs for Cuvergnat, continuing across the meadow whilst keeping the woods on your left and following the tractor tracks across the meadow.
(8) Go through the small gap in the fence, just wide enough for a person, then head down a fairly steep section, so take care.
(9) At the bottom of this steep path, go round the sewage treatment plant on the left then turn right to join the stony path, which you follow to the farm.
(10) At the farm, turn left onto the tarmac path which will take you to Cuvergnat. At the fountain, turn left onto the road and follow the signs for Chavannes-sur-Suran again. Join the D3A and follow it to the right until the next junction.
(11) Take the stony path on the left that climbs and follow it towards a patch of woodland, which you cross.
(12) At the end of the woodland, cross a road and take the path opposite which climbs gently, then turn right, still on a stony path, towards Chavannes.
(13) At the road at Collet de Chavannès, take the path on the left – be careful, it is particularly steep!
After the descent, turn left at the road where there is a house opposite and arrive at the village of Chavannes-sur-Seran (S/E).
I’ve done this walk several times every season; the only downside is the presence of hunters in the area, which isn’t exactly reassuring.
