The beautiful Pic de Merlheu is just one aspect of this pleasant circular route, comprising three peaks, an exposed ridge and two lakes, in a very wild area that is less frequented than many of the classic Pyrenean routes. From the summits and the ridge, there are a succession of incredible views over the Piedmont, the surrounding valleys and the peaks of the border range, 30 km away. The route is somewhat demanding due to its elevation gain, its length and the fact that it follows unmarked paths, some of which are not shown on maps. It is reserved for mountaineers accustomed to trekking in remote high-mountain terrain.
