The departure point is at Artigues on the D918 road in the Gripp Valley.
After Sainte-Marie de Campan, continue on the D918 for about 7 km. Pass Gripp and descend to the left (1188 m) towards Artigues, before starting the hairpin bends that lead to La Mongie resort. Park at the end of the road or at the edge of the reservoir shortly before the end of the road.
(S) Departure from Artigues. Start climbing the track and leave the path that leads to the D918 on your right.
(1) Cross the bridge over the Adour du Tourmalet, heading due east. Follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®10C. Pass the penstock and continue along the path that turns right and heads south-east. Pass Les Vertiges de l'Adour, a hut on your right.
(2) Cross the footbridge and climb quickly into the forest. Pass near the Cascade du Garet waterfall (1,288 m), continue climbing south-east and arrive at the summer pastures.
(3) At a fork where there is an EDF power line pole (1569 m), leave the path on the right that comes from the bottom of the Garet bend and continue straight ahead. The path is less steep and heads south-west. Turn left and cross a stream, descending slightly. Stay on the right bank of the Garet stream. On the other side of the stream, on your right, is the Cabane de Barrasse. Continue climbing south-west and pass above the Fontaine de Milomès (1574 m), slightly below the path.
(4) Cross the footbridge and turn left, staying on the left bank of the stream. The path climbs steeply, still heading southwest.
(5) When you reach a flat area, leave the marked path that branches off to the right and head straight south. The path descends slightly for a few metres. Continue along this path, which is not very well marked on the ground, but cairns help you along the way. The path quickly climbs quite steeply, heading south-southwest.
(6) You will arrive below the Réservoir des Laquets dam (2,041 m). There is a closed hut and an EDF building here. Continue south-west, looking for a path at the end of the dam that climbs very steeply through rhododendrons and shrubs. Continue climbing, following this faint, cairn-marked path.
(7) Arrive at the right-hand side of an unnamed lake, go around it and join the red and white marked path ofthe GR®10C. Turn left and follow the marked path which now heads south-east and overlooks Lac de Gréziolles below on the right. The Cabane de Gréziolles can be seen at the end of the dam. After descending a little, pass between Lac de Gréziolles and Laquette de Gréziolles. The path remains flat for a few metres then climbs rapidly, heading due south. Pass over an EDF underground passage and continue due south. You will arrive at the Campana de Cloutou refuge (2,225 m), which is located above Lac de Campana.
Now continue climbing. Head south on a well-marked path with red and white markings. Climb over rocks and pass between unnamed lakes (2,335 m).
(8) At a fork, leave theGR®10Cand head right, heading due west, leaving Lac de la Hourquette on your left. The well-marked path climbs rapidly, winding its way up several hairpin bends.
(9) Arrive at the Hourquette de Caderolles (2,495 m). View of Lac de Bastan or Port Bielh and Néouvielle. A pause to admire the view is recommended. Many peaks and lakes are visible: a map and compass will help you identify them. Descend slightly along the path you took on the way up and turn right towards the south-west, along the mountainside towards the pass visible at the bottom on the right.
(10) At the Col de Bastanet (2509 m), look for the red and white markings. View of the Lacs de Bastan and their refuge to the south, with the Lacs Supérieur, Milieu and Inférieur.
Head due north (red and white markings) down into the valley towards Lac de La Hourquette (2,405 m). Continue to follow the markings and you will arrive at the fork you passed earlier.
(8) Turn right and continue descending, following the red and white markings from the outward journey to the Campana de Cloutou refuge (2,225 m) (E).
Well-deserved rest, snack and overnight stay.
