(1) Start from the “Refuge de Campana de Cloutou”
The return journey should only be undertaken in good weather, with very good visibility. In the event of bad weather, such as fog or rain, it is recommended that you descend via the same route you took on the way up.
Head south, following the red and white-marked path which climbs towards the Col de Bastanet. Climb towards the unnamed small lakes (elevation 2335).
(1) You’ll reach a fork that isn’t very obvious, just before crossing these unnamed lakes. You must cross to the right bank of the stream flowing beneath the rocks. Then head left, due east.
(2) You’ll reach Lac Arrédoun (alt. 2,326 m); go round it on the left and continue east-northeast along the path, which remains roughly level. Go round the Tuhou Arrédoun du Haut on the left and follow the cairn-marked path that branches off to the right, heading south-east. Caution: the cairn-marked path now descends into a pile of large boulders.
(3) Reach Lac de L’I (alt. 2,303 m). Go round it on the left and head for the pass due east. The path zigzags upwards through the mountain pasture.
(4) You’ll reach the Col de Couradette (alt. 2,403). A small lake lies below, just past the pass, to the left of the path. You can stop for a break here; it’s a very pleasant spot. You must now descend into the valley due east, following the cairns. You’ll pass a few small lakes.
(5) You’ll reach an unnamed hut in good condition (Lita de la Cabane). From the hut, head north-west and turn right, continuing to descend. Pass along the right bank of the torrent.
(6) You’ll come within sight of Lac de Cul des Gourgs (alt. 2,282 m) and go round the lake on the right. The path descends steeply over rocks, then winds its way down steeply, heading north-north-east. Stay on this path, which becomes more visible, and continue descending towards Lac de Montarrouye.
(7) You will reach Lac de Montarrouye (elevation 1,936 m). A tin hut, in good condition, is situated slightly to the left above the lake: you can take a break there. Continue along the path heading due north, which skirts the lake on the left. Caution: you must cross over to the other side of the slope.
(8) At the fork at the hamlet of Les Portes (at an altitude of approximately 2052 m), leave the well-marked path that descends towards La Gaoube.
Turn left onto the path which climbs very steeply, heading north-west. Pass a grassy spur and arrive below the Tuhou Gran (1,911 m). Go round it to the left, turn left heading due west and pass above the ruined Graoube hut.
(9) Head due north, leaving the Cot Dessus (elevation 1874) on your left, and follow the well-marked paths. Pass to the left of the altitude 1833.
(10) At Cot Debat (alt. 1,815 m), there is a small rocky outcrop to cross, which poses no danger. Now head north-west. After 300 m, turn right (north) following marked paths. An old grassy track veers left towards the west and takes you above a hut.
(11) On reaching the Cabane de la Béziaou (alt. 1,600 m), continue 100 m westwards and turn left, heading due south, descending rapidly through vegetation of varying density along a well-marked path.
(12) At a fork, before the stream, turn right, heading due west, following the red and white markings ofthe GR®®10C. Continue downhill, rejoining the path taken the previous day.
Walk past the Garet Waterfall, cross the footbridge over the Garet, cross the bridge over the Artigues and turn right to return to the starting point and your vehicles (S/E).
