Description of the walk

Park in the tennis stadium car park.

(S/E) Turn left, then right to take the footbridge over the Ruisseau des Citelles, arriving at Chemin du Gat.

(1) Turn left to reach the junction with the D126. Cross it carefully and follow it for about 200 m on the right before reaching a path.

(2) Take Chemin de Lalo on the left and continue to the first path on the right, Chemin de Romaret.

(3) Follow it to a 90° left-hand bend and the signpost for Pinet, next to an electricity pole.

(4) Turn right towards “Rotary” to join the A-road. Cross it carefully and follow the road opposite, which then turns into a track. Ignore the first track on the right. Pass the water reservoir and continue to the signpost for Rotary.

(5) Turn left towards Combe-Balaste to follow a stony track alongside the quarries. This rejoins the D126 road.

(6) Turn immediately right onto a dirt and gravel track that climbs gradually to a Fork in the road at the Combe Balaste signpost.

(7) Continue along the main track towards Rainaude, then keep right further on.

(8) At the Rainaude signpost, turn left and follow the stony path down to the road.

(9) At the Route du Sagnac, turn right to follow the road leading to a farm. Cross the yard.

(10) Shortly afterwards, take the track on the right which winds up to the ridge and branches off to the left.

(11) Join the Crête de la Série track and follow it to the left. You will reach the signpost for Montagne de la Série.

(12) At the pipeline, continue towards Les Jardins and Espeluche along a small path that descends. Near the buildings, take a path opposite, close to the fields. At the bottom of the descent, you’ll reach another path.

(13) Continue to the right along this Chemin de Serre Pointu, then go straight on until you reach the tarmac road. Follow it straight ahead and then turn left until you reach the signpost for Les Jardins.

(14) Continue to the right towards the junction with the footbridge path leading to Espeluche Stadium.

(1) Return to the stadium (S/E) via the reverse route of the outward journey.

A leisurely walk. The most surprising part is when you have to cross the farmyard – if you have a dog, keep it close to you. The walk starts on the road but is then quite shaded.

A very pleasant walk, well signposted; we had recce’d it several months ago and it’s excellent – a mix of small roads and lovely paths. It can be done in half a day, but we like to set off mid-morning, have a picnic around 12.30 pm, and finish the walk without getting back too late. There are two stony descents, but nothing too difficult – they’re easy to manage. A lovely walk, even with young children.

A pleasant hike and a nice surprise upon arriving at the farmyard.
