Description of the walk

Park in the car park between the post office and the church in Plogastel-Saint-Germain.
This route is not signposted in the woods and part of it is in the village.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, set off along Rue des Bruyères, turn left into the first narrow street, Impasse de l'Église, and you will arrive at the bottom of the church. Turn right, then left, pass in front of the calvary and take the D240 for a few dozen metres.

(1) Opposite the town hall, turn left and go straight down Rue de l'École.
Turn right into Cité des Hortensias (no entry sign) and at the end, cross the D240 with caution ( no pedestrian crossing) to enter Rue de Briscoul Huella (stone house on the right bearing the date 1890 with Breton decorations).

(2) Ignore the first street on the right and turn left onto the paved road (no motor vehicles). Pass a children's playground with a picnic table and walk alongside the Résidence Aoly retirement home.
At the junction with Allée des Sources, opposite a housing estate, turn right and then take the right-hand carriageway, which joins a street with a mini-nursery on the left and a medical centre on the right. At the stop sign, turn left towards a small roundabout.

(3) Cross the D57 carefully using the pedestrian crossing on the right and enter a cul-de-sac which continues along a grassy path (stone block at the entrance). Reach the access road to the houses in Roz ar Gall and continue to the junction with the D57. Turn left, cross a small bridge over the Pont-L'abbé stream and continue until you reach the access to the water treatment plant.

(4) Climb up into the Bois du Quilliou, follow the wide path that veers left and climbs steadily, ignoring the paths on the right. You will come to a slightly clearer intersection.

(5) Turn left and follow the path that goes around the Quilliou farm and continue straight ahead along the edge of the field to reach a slightly elevated section and a crossroads.

(6) Turn left heading south and follow this path, which is circular and heads north, ignoring any side paths. Begin a beautiful descent towards the edge of the meadows. Turn right to re-enter the wooded area, continuing to ignore any side paths, and follow a diagonal descent to reach the edge of the woods, crossing the Pont-L'abbé stream.

Mountain bike trail markers in the opposite direction

(7) Turn left at the edge of a wood and a wetland and continue along a stretch of road (on the left, view of a group of four wind turbines).

No markings

(8) At the T-junction, turn right onto the road that climbs towards two large mobile phone masts and arrive at the D57 (signposted Plogastel-Saint-Germain).

(9) Turn right, walk past a garage and then carefully cross the D57 (no pedestrian crossing) to take the road opposite and follow it to the next crossroads. Turn right at the sign for the hamlet of Kerléron and continue straight on towards a farm.

(10) Before reaching the farm (large majestic beech tree), turn left onto a path that joins a mountain bike trail.

Mountain bike signpost in the opposite direction

Take it on the right. It overlooks a stream that becomes the Pont-L'abbé River. Continue along this main path lined with embankments, pass a wash house and continue along an old property wall. Continue along Rue de la Fontaine (note the old stylised sundial on a house on the left) and arrive at Rue du Kastel.

(11) Cross at the pedestrian crossing on the left, turn into Rue des Sabotiers opposite and turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Toilets near the church.
Small roads and wooded paths.

Possible shortcut: at the edge of the woods (7), take the mountain bike route opposite that climbs towards the football stadium, turn left into Cité des Pins and take the pedestrian crossing on the right that leads to the D57. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead along a footpath that turns right to rejoin the original route at elevation 103.

Worth a visit

Near the church, there is a calvary with the inscription 1559 in Gothic letters above a war memorial.

Saint-Pierre Church was rebuilt between 1878 and 1880, and its slender bell tower was completed nearly 20 years later.
Leucogranite, a local stone, was used in the construction of the church.
It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Quilliou woods cover nearly 57 hectares and are located next to the village. Accessible via two entrances, they are a favourite spot for outdoor enthusiasts. These woods are also home to a remarkable historical heritage site, a feudal mound, which is a valuable witness to local history.

The municipality plans to purchase it as part of the heritage foundation in order to showcase it and preserve the remains of the feudal mound (municipal information 2025).
