Countryside and woods around Plogastel-Saint-Germain

Park at the Kérandoaré carpool car park, on the edge of the D57 leading to Plogastel-Saint-Germain from the D784,Audierne road.

(S/E) From the carpool car park, follow the D57 towards Plogastel-Saint-Germain for about 100 metres. At a beautiful beech tree, cross the road carefully and take the small road on the right until you reach the last house.

(1) Turn left behind this house and follow a path that winds through a wooded area. The numerous marker posts make it easy to find your way. The path leads to a footbridge over a stream.

(2) After crossing the footbridge, turn left, continue through the woods and you will come to a small road where you can see, on the right, an old bread oven that was saved at the last minute in 2023 when this trail was created.

(3) Cross this small road and continue straight ahead, passing in front of an old farmhouse in Saint-Avé Huella (under restoration in 2025). Cross another small road and descend straight ahead via the access road to a pumping station. Go around this enclosure, continue along the path overlooking a stream hidden by vegetation and arrive at a small road.

(4) Turn right, then left, cross this small road, take the path behind a house and continue straight ahead until you reach the D57, a major road leading to Plogastel-Saint-Germain. Cross it carefully and continue along the path that joins a small road.

(5) Turn right, go straight down and arrive at the D140, signposted "Give way". Cross at the pedestrian crossing on the right and, at the three-way junction, take a safe passage parallel to the road and go to the end.

(6) Turn left to go around the hamlet of Kerléron and arrive at a long boardwalk above a wetland. Follow it to its end. Walk along a wood and pass to the left of a high wall of a property. Arrive at the junction with a "Vallée de Plogastel" mountain bike route.

(7) Turn right, cross the D57 with caution and continue along a path towards a sports complex. Start a beautiful descent on a path and arrive at the edge of the Bois du Quilliou. Find a path on the left a few metres after the 90° right-hand bend.

(8) Take this path and cross the Pont-l'Abbé river. Ignore the first path on the right and take the next one, which goes uphill. At the various junctions, ignore the paths branching off to the sides and continue to the edge of the woods, bordering a meadow.

(9) Turn left and continue straight ahead on a steady climb, ignoring the side paths, until you reach a crossroads.

(10) Continue straight ahead along the path, which is circular and heads north. Turn right, walking alongside the fields on your right, and continue towards the Quilliou farm.

(11) Go around it on the left, turn right and head towards the exit of the woods, keeping to the paths on the right. At the exit, opposite the access to the water treatment plant, turn left and cross the Pont-l'Abbé River again.

(12) Turn right onto a short road leading to houses and continue along a stony path, then a tarmac section. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing on the left and continue straight ahead.

(13) Turn right at the first street (mini-nursery on the right and medical centre on the left) and continue along the retirement home, Résidence Aolycon. Turn left onto Rue des Sources, then left onto the tarmac path (no motor vehicles). Pass a children's playground with a picnic table. At Rue de Brisoul Huella, continue to the right, cross the D240 with caution ( no pedestrian crossing) and turn left into Cité des Hortensias, which leads to Rue des Écoles. Follow it straight ahead to the left until you reach Place de l'Église and its calvary-war memorial.

(14) Go up to the right, along the church, pass the post office, turn into Rue de Sabotiers and cross Rue du Kastel (D57) with caution.

Opposite, take Rue de la Fontaine (beautiful sundial) and follow the path as it continues, turning right. Pass a well-maintained wash house and continue above the valley where a stream flows, which becomes the Pont-l'Abbé River. Ignore the paths that descend into this valley and arrive at a small wooden bridge to cross a stream.

(15) Turn right and continue towards the hamlet of Kervil. Go around it on the left and you will come out on the D140, where you leave the mountain bike trail.

Follow the grassy strip to the left until you reach a sign indicating a nearby crossroads.

(16) Cross the road carefully and take the path opposite, which joins a small road. Follow it to the right, passing a Christmas tree plantation on your right. In the bend (Keréon on the map, thatched cottage), continue to the right until you reach the end of the road, which serves several properties. Turn left onto the path that passes near a shelter for the equipment of the "Archers du Castel" and leads to a carriage road to follow on the left. Continue along the uphill road that crosses an industrial estate, pass the funeral parlour and find the car park on the right (S/E).

Many sunken paths lined with wooded slopes covered in deciduous trees, including chestnut trees.

During the season, an interesting route for chestnut lovers, but not for dogs (shells).

Near the church, a calvary with the inscription 1559 in Gothic letters surmounting a war memorial.

Saint-Pierre Church was rebuilt between 1878 and 1880, and its slender bell tower was completed nearly 20 years later.
Leucogranite, a local stone, was used in the construction of the church.
It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Quilliou woods cover nearly 57 hectares and are located next to the village. Accessible via two entrances, they are a favourite spot for outdoor enthusiasts. These woods are also home to a remarkable historical heritage site, a feudal mound, which is a valuable witness to local history.

The municipality plans to purchase it as part of the heritage foundation in order to showcase it and preserve the remains of the feudal mound (municipal information 2025).
