Normanton walks

A Lincolnshire walk that explores the parkland and surroundings of Culverthorpe Hall using some of the many local footpaths and also some of the "Stepping Out" paths set up by North Kesteven District Council.

A lovely walk starting in the market town of Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Leading into the quiet countryside with mosty well-kept paths to Car Colston, where you can have a well-deserved refreshing drink in a dog friendly pub, before heading back to Bingham.

The historic Nottinghamshire Minster town of Southwell is the seat of the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham. The Minster is globally important for the exceptional quality carvings ‘The Leaves of Southwell’. The town is famous for the original Bramley Apple tree which was sown in 1809, the fact that Charles 1st spent his final night in the town before he was taken to London for execution. Lord Byron also lived here. The Workhouse on the edge of town is a popular National Trust property.

This circular walk of 7.3 miles starts & ends at the carpark behind St Bartholomew's Church, Kneesall NG22 0AD. It includes pasture and crop fields, and some woodland. Fine elevated views can be seen of the undulating countryside, especially near the Golden Hill trig point. Interesting features include the village of Laxton - the last village in the UK to farm using a medieval strip system. Nearby are Motte & Bailey earthworks. ⚠️Parts of the path is overgrown with rape seed plants with no obvious way through. This Lincolnshire walk is somewhat different in that walkers can do some route finding for themselves. This is because Chambers Farm Wood has several self-guided, waymarked routes that can be used to vary my preferred route described below. Part of the walk follows quiet country lanes and traverses typical Lincolnshire countryside.

This walk starts and finishes at The Horseshoe public house, excellent food. Lovely countryside walk on footpaths, minor roads and short stretch on A15.

This walk uses quiet country lanes with open vistas across agricultural fields to arrive at river glen by Surfleet Bank and the sea lock. Follows Macmillan Way through golf course and delightful river Glen. passing under the A16 and continues along river to crosses over river to return to village hall.

This short walk starts and ends at Birchgrove Garden Centre on the B1356 at (PE11 3XY). The route to Surfleet church is on quiet country roads. The return is mainly following the river Glen along the Macmillan Way, finally returning back via urban road.

This walk is useful when fields are waterlogged, mainly on quiet lanes. When we did this walk in autumn the sunflowers were spectacular.

A cycle ride through the ages – Civil War battlefield, Georgian Manor House and a Victorian Poet's birthplace – this route is on narrow lanes around the Lymn & Waring river valleys.

Short walk starting at car park pay station near Café Nero. Minor road to follow River Welland exiting on minor road to Wykeham and return to Springfields Outlet Shopping complex.

This easy short walk along the Coronation Channel has many water birds to observe, Crested Grebe, Ducks, Swans, Herons sometimes Cormorants. Springfields is a major shopping outlet has all the facilities, coffee shops and lovely gardens to take a short break. Coronation Channel was created in 1953 following major flooding of Spalding following heavy rains rising River Welland coupled with a very high tide, so this relief channel was dug.

Easy walk on dykes and roads with the opportunity to see birdlife such as Swans, Cormorants, Grebes and Egret. Tulip Queen good eating place normal carvery etc. suggest booking if large party.

This Rutland walk follows a clockwise route around the Hambleton Peninsula created in 1976 when the reservoir initially opened. The route uses concessionary paths for much of the way. Views across the Reservoir can be enjoyed throughout.

Lovely walk from The Bertie Arms in Uffington to Burghley House, returning via the river Welland.

This is a circular route taking in three villages and the route can be adjusted to have the start/finish at any one of them. The suggested route has a nice pub for a tasty half-way treat.

This walk is about 5.5 miles long, starting and ending at the village of Hoby. There are fine views across the undulating Leicestershire countryside from the elevated ground near Ragdale Hall. The route and footpaths are well maintained with visible waymarkers and only a few stiles. Most paths are across crop or pasture fields but note some fields may contain bullocks depending on the time of year.

Starting from Ludford, this dog-friendly walk joins the Viking Way long distance footpath and leaves the village past the old 101 Squadron airfield, skirting the edge of the Deserted Medieval Village at Wykeham and leaving the Viking Way. Onwards and upwards to Great Tows, the highest point of the walk where there are fine views of the Wolds top and often a brisk breeze blowing.

A linear Leicestershire walk which uses paths and bridleways to explore the countryside to the south and east of the Billesdon. Return to the start can be made using Centrebus route 747 which has a regular service between Skeffington and Billesdon.
