Most of the ascent is on the climb up to Crêt du Midi; the route then follows the ridges with relatively little elevation gain, before descending to Lac du Plan Désert. This climb can be shortened by taking the Crêt du Midi chairlift (fee applies) from Praz-sur-Arly. A day hike with no particular difficulty
