Description of the walk

After a night at the refuge and a hearty breakfast, walk along the Chalet de Nant Borrant (S), cross the Lancher torrent and enter the Role woods. At the edge of the woods, continue straight ahead along the wide path that crosses a flat area. A footbridge allows you to cross the torrent. You will reach La Balme (1706m).

(1) Continue above the refuge and reach a crossroads. At the crossroads, turn left and climb the ridge from which the Bon Nant stream (waterfall) tumbles down.

(2) Shortly afterwards, cross the Plan Jovet plateau heading south-east.

(3) Continue south-west. The path heads south-west and climbs a new ledge that leads to Plan des Dames (2,043 m). Via a short but steep scree slope, where large snowfields remain late in the season, reach the Col du Bonhomme (2,329 m).

(4) At the Michelin signpost, turn left and take the often snow-covered track. Pass close to a ruined building, then under the power line, and over easy rocks or snow to reach the Col des Fours (2,665m), which is rather poorly signposted.

(5) Descend to the right along the north-east slope of the Tête Sud des Fours, skirting rocky outcrops. Reach the Plan des Fours and follow the right bank of the torrent northwards. The slope becomes steeper. Cross asecond plateau heading north-east and arrive near a large torrent descending from the Tête Nord des Fours.

(6) Turn right and stay on the path. Cross the stream, continue south-east along the mountainside, gradually moving away from the stream, and arrive at the Chalets des Tufs (1,993 m).

(7) Continue the descent to reach the hamlet of Ville-des-Glaciers (1,789 m).

(8) Descend below the chalets to cross the Torrent des Glaciers, turn left and climb along the torrent. Cross the Ruisseau du Grand Praz (wooden footbridge) coming from the Montagne de la Seigne and arrive at the Chalets des Mottets (1,870m). (E).
